Center for Space Transportation and Applied Research Fifth Annual Technical Symposium Proceedings

Abstract

This Fifth Annual Technical Symposium, sponsored by the UT-Calspan Center for Space Transportation and Applied Research (CSTAR), is organized to provide an overview of the technical accomplishments of the Center's five Research and Technology focus areas during the past year. These areas include chemical propulsion, electric propulsion, commerical space transportation, computational methods, and laser materials processing. Papers in the area of artificial intelligence/expert systems are also presented.

Fifth Annual Workshop on Space Operations Applications and Research (Soar 1991), Volume 1

More than 110 papers were presented at this Symposium, sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Phillips Laboratory, the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and NASA JSC. The technical areas covered were Intelligent Systems, Automation and Robotics, Human Factors and Life Sciences, and Environmental Interactions. The U.S. Air Force and NASA programmatic overviews and panel discussions were also held in each technical area. These proceedings, along with the comments and suggestions made by the panelists and keynote speakers, will be used in assessing the progress made in joint USAF/NASA projects and activities. Furthermore, future collaborative/joint programs will also be identified. The symposium proceedings includes papers covering various disciplines presented by experts from NASA, the Air Force, universities, and industry.

Proceedings of the Fifth Photovoltaic Specialists Conference: Volume II - Thin Film Solar Cells and Radiation Damage

This conference, the fifth of its kind, was cosponsored by IEEE, AIAA, and the NASA-Goddard Space Flight Center. Facilities for meetings and other arrangements were the responsibility of NASA-Goddard. Presentations are included in the order in which delivered at the conference and were prepared from papers submitted to the Power Information Center (PIC) through the IEEE. Presentations are arranged in three volumes and five sections reflecting the arrangement of the conference into three days and five sessions. Contents of the volumes are as follows: - Volume I - Advanced Solar Cells - Volume II - Thin Film Solar Cells and Radiation Damage - Volume III - Solar Power Systems Considerations

The papers deal essentially with the instrumentation needs of the transportation industry, machinery diagnostics, and energy research. The sessions covered include: acoustic emission, reentry vehicle ground and flight testing, performance of nose tip materials, instrumentation for solar heating and cooling systems, vibration measurement, data acquisition and analysis, system for aerospace pressure measurements, wind tunnel instrumentation and control, energy source instrumentation, nondestructive testing, pressure and flow measurements, automated test facilities, strain measurements, electrooptical instrumentation, thermal measurements, microcomputer applications in instrumentation and automation, flight testing, blast pressure measurement, two-phase liquid/gas mass flow measurement, and machinery monitoring and instrumentation.
