UTM Data Working Group Demonstration 1: Final Report

Abstract

This document summarizes activities defining and executing the first demonstration of the NASA-FAA Research Transition Team (RTT) Data Exchange and Information Architecture (DEIA) working group (DWG). The demonstration focused on testing the interactions between two key components in the future UAS Traffic Management (UTM) System through a collaborative and distributed simulation of key scenarios. The summary incorporates written feedback from each of the participants in the demonstration. In addition to reporting the activities, this report also provides some insight into future steps of this working group.

TCL4 Corpus Christi Video with Narration

This is a video for use in presenting an overview of NASA's UAS Traffic Management (UTM) Project's Technical Capability Level 4 (TCL4) flight test that was conducted in the summer of 2019 in the urban flight areas of Corpus Christi, TX. The video presents a graphical view of the specific flight areas that were used and touches upon the main objectives that were demonstrated as part of the event. A number of examples with visual representations of Unmanned Aircraft Vehicles based on collected data are presented in various situations that were constructed to target certain concept elements of UTM. Examples of situations presented are: High density operations, operations in close proximity, off-nominal events, and contingency management situations.

Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management (UTM) Project

This is a slide set for use in presenting an overview of NASA's UAS Traffic Management (UTM) Project and most recent activites. The contents of the slides describe the background and need that led to the development of the UTM concept as well as a high level explanation of what UTM is and how it addresses the identified needs. The architecture that was developed to support the UTM environment and its interface with the National Airspace System is also included. The approach that the Project undertook in framing the environments and Technical Capability Levels of its research is also presented with further detail given with respect to the final, large-scale event conducted in 2019. Finally, the broad impact and influence that the project and its activites had across many areas is presented as a concluding statement.
