Plasma Reactor Summary

Abstract

A reactor was designed and constructed to generate a plasma and expose various materials to this plasma. The reactor was capable of heating the plasma chamber and supplying a gas to the chamber at pressures from vacuum levels to 200 psi. A calorimeter was constructed around the plasma chamber to accurately monitor the thermal power exiting the plasma chamber. A steady state or pulsed plasma could be generated. The input and output electrical power for creating the plasma was monitored and the current and voltage waveforms were observed and recorded using a series of oscilloscopes. A description of the plasma reactor operation and results from a demonstration test are provided.
