Abstract
Aerosols (mostly) scatter sunlight back to space, partially compensating for CO2 warming. To match the 20th century temperature record, models with low climate sensitivity require a relatively higher total anthropogenic forcing. Observational constraints on aerosol radiative effects will help to improve climate predictions.
