Thermal Challenges from GSFC Planetary Missions

Abstract

Planetary science missions introduce many thermal challenges based on their varied thermal environment. Additionally planetary missions often include specific payloads that introduce further thermal design challenges. This presentation provides an overview of those challenges through the perspective of NASA planetary science missions that GSFC has been involved with. It also presents a look ahead at how these challenges will be expanded with the proposed mission concepts in the 2022 Planetary decadal survey.
