Materials Data on Ge2O3 by Materials Project
Abstract
Ge2O3 is (Cubic) Perovskite-derived structured and crystallizes in the cubic Pm-3m space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are two inequivalent Ge3+ sites. In the first Ge3+ site, Ge3+ is bonded to twelve equivalent O2- atoms to form GeO12 cuboctahedra that share corners with twelve equivalent GeO12 cuboctahedra, faces with six equivalent GeO12 cuboctahedra, and faces with eight equivalent GeO6 octahedra. All Ge–O bond lengths are 2.67 Å. In the second Ge3+ site, Ge3+ is bonded to six equivalent O2- atoms to form GeO6 octahedra that share corners with six equivalent GeO6 octahedra and faces with eight equivalent GeO12 cuboctahedra. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 0°. All Ge–O bond lengths are 1.89 Å. O2- is bonded in a linear geometry to six Ge3+ atoms.
