Materials for Extreme Irradiation Environments
Abstract
Award DE-FG02-05ER46217 consisted of two phases: From 8/2005 to 8/2010, it supported two PIs, R. S. Averback and P. Bellon, on an effort entitled “Microstructural evolution and mechanical response of complex alloys under prolonged particle irradiation”. The results of this first phase led to the funding of a research cluster, supporting five PIs, adding Shen J. Dillon, William P. King and Dallas R. Trinkle plus Averback and Bellon, broadening the research to the study of “Materials for Extreme Irradiation Environments”. We summarize here the key findings obtained during this award, and their impact on our understanding of the fundamental aspects of microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of metallic alloys driven by irradiation or severe plastic deformation.
