Materials Data on Sb by Materials Project
Abstract
Sb crystallizes in the triclinic P-1 space group. The structure is three-dimensional. there are nine inequivalent Sb sites. In the first Sb site, Sb is bonded in a distorted hexagonal planar geometry to six Sb atoms. There are a spread of Sb–Sb bond distances ranging from 3.05–3.19 Å. In the second Sb site, Sb is bonded to six Sb atoms to form SbSb6 octahedra that share corners with two equivalent SbSb5 trigonal bipyramids and edges with two equivalent SbSb6 octahedra. There are a spread of Sb–Sb bond distances ranging from 3.09–3.25 Å. In the third Sb site, Sb is bonded to six Sb atoms to form edge-sharing SbSb6 octahedra. There are a spread of Sb–Sb bond distances ranging from 3.01–3.27 Å. In the fourth Sb site, Sb is bonded in a distorted hexagonal planar geometry to six Sb atoms. There are a spread of Sb–Sb bond distances ranging from 3.09–3.13 Å. In the fifth Sb site, Sb is bonded in a distorted rectangular see-saw-like geometry to four Sb atoms. There are one shorter (2.89 Å) and one longer (2.97 Å) Sb–Sb bond lengths. In the sixth Sb site, Sb is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to five Sb atoms. There are a spread of Sb–Sb bond distances ranging from 2.98–3.34 Å. In the seventh Sb site, Sb is bonded in a 5-coordinate geometry to five Sb atoms. In the eighth Sb site, Sb is bonded in a 6-coordinate geometry to six Sb atoms. There are one shorter (2.96 Å) and one longer (3.25 Å) Sb–Sb bond lengths. In the ninth Sb site, Sb is bonded to five Sb atoms to form distorted SbSb5 trigonal bipyramids that share a cornercorner with one SbSb6 octahedra and corners with three equivalent SbSb5 trigonal bipyramids. The corner-sharing octahedral tilt angles are 33°.
