Editorial: Microorganisms for Consolidated 2nd Generation Biorefining
Abstract
In the last few decades, lignocellulosic biomass has attracted substantial interest as a feedstock for fermentative production of fuels and other commodity chemicals due to its wide availability and low cost. However, lignocellulose has innate complexity and recalcitrance to biodegradation. In natural environments, effective plant biomass decay is obtained by synergistic activity of complex microbial communities.
