Perch 3D

Abstract

Processed SEGY files from the Perch 3D seismic area in the Michigan Basin. Data was used to make estimates of the stress field in the study area. Data was processed from Texseis, Inc.

Data for "High-resolution microCT reveals relationships between stomata and interior leaf anatomy in Sorghum"

Includes three different types of stacks, in two folders: "REC_RAW_STACKS.zip" contains: (1) Raw gray-scale reconstructed microCT x-ray scans, in the form of individual stacks per sample. "ML_STACKS.zip" contains: (2) Stacks that have been labeled using a machine-learning mask-RCNN pipeline identifying epidermis, mesophyll, airspace, vascular bundle, and background. (3) Stacks that have stomata locations labeled using a small point. The three types of stacks were used to calculate a variety of anatomical and physiological traits, using ImageJ Macros provided on Github: https://github.com/leakey-lab/microCT-Macros-Fischer. Young leaves from WT and transgenic Sorghum plants. CSV "microCT_REC2_META.csv" contains metadata, including sample/sub-sample labels.

Exploring density and strength variations in asteroid 16 Psyche’s composition with 3D hydrocode modeling of its deepest impact structure

Asteroid 16 Psyche is the largest metallic Main Belt Asteroid and is the subject of a forthcoming NASA mission. The composition of Psyche is still unknown and subject of recent debate. In particular, how much porosity is within Psyche, along with how much of Psyche consists of non-metallic versus metallic materials, are central questions to the issue of Psyche’s composition. If Psyche is indeed predominantly composed of metallic materials, it would need to have considerable porosity (~ 30%–50%) for a composition consistent with its expected bulk density (~ 3.7–4.1 g/cm). In this work, we vary the density and strength of Psyche by including uniform and layered fields of pseudo-microporosity, in addition to investigating the presence of macroscopic voids, i.e., spaces larger than the size of the simulation’s mesh cells, in rubble-pile configurations. Further, all configurations result in bulk densities within the uncertainties of measured values, however the strength of Psyche and the distribution of pseudo-pores are varied. Through 3D computational models of Psyche’s deepest impact structure, we show that Psyche’s composition is unlikely to contain only pseudo-microporosity. Rather, rubble pile structures, which include macroscopic voids, are shown to match the crater’s measured aspect ratio better than simulations of structures that included only pseudo-microporosity.

Noodles: Cooking Up Collaborative Visualization

NOODLES is a new cross-domain collaborative visualization and analysis capability being developed at NREL. The NOODLES specification is a minimal protocol that can tie different software packages and platforms together. As an example, a simulation code that speaks this protocol could stream iso-surfaces to an immersive VR space and a web browser. Another example is a team (with some members across the country) classifying and discovering features in a statistical data plot, driven from a researcher's existing Python-based workflow. In this talk, we will discuss some background on the problems that this protocol intends to solve, basic principles of the specification, the current state of supporting libraries, and some demonstrations of the protocol in action.
