Quasiparton distributions in massive QED2: Toward quantum computation

Abstract

We analyze the quasiparton distributions of the lightest ๐œ‚โ€ฒ meson in massive two-dimensional quantum electrodynamics (QED2) by exact diagonalization. The Hamiltonian and boost operators are mapped onto spin qubits in a spatial lattice with open boundary conditions. The lowest excited state in the exact diagonalization is shown to interpolate continuously between an anomalous ๐œ‚โ€ฒ state at strong coupling, and a nonanomalous heavy meson at weak coupling, with a cusp at the critical point. The boosted ๐œ‚โ€ฒ state follows relativistic kinematics but with large deviations in the luminal limit. The spatial quasiparton distribution function and amplitude for the ๐œ‚โ€ฒ state are computed numerically for increasing rapidity both at strong and weak coupling, and compared to the exact light front results. The numerical results from the boosted form of the spatial parton distributions, compare fairly with the inverse Fourier transformation of the luminal parton distributions, derived in the lowest Fock space approximation. Our analysis points out some of the limitations facing the current lattice program for the parton distributions.

Empirical investigation of nuclear correlation function distributions in lattice QCD

Two-point correlation functions of systems with baryon number ๐ต โˆˆ {1,2,3,4} are investigated using lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In particular, the empirical distributions of importance-sampling Monte-Carlo samples of these correlation functions are examined as a function of the spacetime separation between the two points and the baryon number. While the exact forms of these distributions are not known for QCD, recent work has determined asymptotic expressions for analogous correlation function distributions in simpler theories such as scalar field theory and the disordered phase of the ๐‘‚โก(๐‘) model. The theoretical ๐‘‚โก(๐‘) model distributions are found to provide an accurate description of the empirical QCD distributions at zero momentum over a wide range of temporal separations for each baryon number when assessed with a range of different statistical tests. In particular, the behavior of the baryon number ๐ต QCD correlation function at large temporal separation is well reproduced by the ๐‘‚โก(๐‘ โˆผ 2/๐ต) model distribution.
