Abstract

This GitHub repository hosts the source code to an RShiny web application that implements the U.S. Environmentally-Extended Input-Output (USEEIO) model in order to conduct a screening-level life cycle analysis. The USEEIO model is an open-source model developed and maintained by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), along with colleagues and contractors, and is available on GitHub (https://github.com/USEPA/USEEIO). The USEEIO model incorporates environmental data into pre-existing Economic Input-Output Models, which look at the interdependence of different economic industries. In this web application, the focus is on energy infrastructure applications; however, it can be used to implement USEEIO in any area for which this model is applicable.

Geomatchd

Geomatchd is a software tool to assist non-experts in the rapid conceptual design of geothermal district heating systems. This tool comprises three main parts: user-side heating and cooling demand profiles, district heating and cooling (DHC) network models for sizing and optimal layout selection, and geothermal system models for heat extraction calculation and cost comparison. The architecture of Geomatchd is opensource and is intended to simplify efforts by other coders to improve on existing functions, to add functions and to leverage available existing code and data – to improve the tool for public use. Geomatchd and the material supporting its development may provide a more intuitive window on district heating and the use of local shallow geothermal resources.

CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery Evaluation System (CO2_E_EvSystem), Version 2025

The United States Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Fossil Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) developed a suite of screening-level, techno-economic models/tools, known as the CO2_E_EvSystem, to evaluate technical aspects and costs of using carbon dioxide (CO2) enhanced oil recovery (EOR) to store CO2 and produce oil. CO2_E_EvSystem has three software components and several input and output files. The software components are CO2_E_EvTool, CO2_Prophet, and CO2_E_COM. Almost all computational work is performed by CO2_Prophet and CO2_E_COM, which are both Fortran programs. The primary role of CO2_E_EvTool is to manage input and output files for the two programs, run the two programs, allow multiple oilfields to be evaluated in a single run, and generate files that summarize the results for all the oilfields run. This version of the CO2_E_EvSystem includes a residual oil zone dataset from the San Andres formation, Permian Basin, to demonstrate the system and guide users on attributes needed for dataset inputs.
