Custom Equipment Development for Processing of Surplus Plutonium
Abstract
Facilities and Material • Location: Savannah River Site K-Area, South Carolina • Plutonium designated as surplus is blended with adulterant material, re-packaged and shipped to WIPP in New Mexico • Currently one operational glovebox for downblending, facility modifications and construction of three additional glovebox lines in progress • Current operations are highly manual requiring full PPE and reader/worker steps
