Laser driven inertial fusion energy technology development
Abstract
The future of Laser-Based Inertial fusion energy requires the development of efficient diode-pumped laser drivers that can be scaled to megajoule class output operating at ≥ 10-Hz repetition rate. ARPA-E requested a study of the range of possibilities for a 100kJ/10-Hz laser system with >15% wall-plug efficiency operating below 360 nm. The conceptual design of a compact, 1 kJ class module is presented and analyzed for performance relative to the objectives along with a roadmap to demonstrate the technology.
