𝜌-meson nucleon scattering length from CLAS threshold photoproduction measurements

Abstract

Here, extending our study of the vector meson-nucleon scattering lengths, we are focusing on the 𝜌-meson case using recent CLAS threshold data for the reaction 𝛾⁒𝑝 β†’πœŒβ’π‘ within the meson–baryon reaction model. The total 𝜎 𝑑 ⁑(𝛾⁒𝑝 β†’πœŒβ’π‘) and 𝜎 𝑑⁑ (𝛾⁒𝑝 β†’πœ”β’π‘) cross sections are close to the momentum of the vector meson in CM π‘ž =0.2 GeV/c. Then the πœŒβ’π‘ photoproduction cross section grows rapidly. Our result for πœŒβ’π‘ scattering length is a factor of 4 smaller than the size of the hadron and the phenomenological determination of the πœ” nucleon scattering length using threshold photoproduction cross sections. The observed difference between πœŒβ’π‘ and πœ”β’π‘ scattering lengths is of interest for further understanding within hadron structure theory.

Shear viscosity from perturbative quantum chromodynamics to the hadron resonance gas at finite baryon, strangeness, and electric charge densities

Through model-to-data comparisons from heavy-ion collisions, it has been shown that the quark gluon plasma has an extremely small shear viscosity at vanishing densities. At large baryon densities, significantly less is known about the nature of the shear viscosity from quantum chromodynamics (QCD). Within heavy-ion collisions, there are three conserved charges: baryon number (B), strangeness (S), and electric charge (Q). Here we calculate the shear viscosity in two limits using perturbative QCD (pQCD) and an excluded-volume hadron resonance gas at finite BSQ densities. We then develop a framework that interpolates between these two limits such that shear viscosity is possible to calculate across a wide range of finite BSQ densities. We find that the pQCD and hadron resonance gas calculations have different BSQ density dependencies such that a rather nontrivial shear viscosity appears at finite densities.

Transverse spin asymmetries and the electron Yukawa coupling at an FCC-ee

We show that measurements of single transverse-spin asymmetries at an 𝑒 + ⁒𝑒 βˆ’ collider can enhance the sensitivity to the electron Yukawa coupling, possibly enabling observation of the Standard Model value for this quantity. We demonstrate that the significance in both the 𝑏⁒$\overline{𝑏}$ and semileptonic π‘Šβ’π‘Š final states can be enhanced by factors of up to 3 compared to inclusive cross-section determinations of this coupling for transversely polarized electrons. If the positrons can be simultaneously longitudinally polarized, even at the level of 30%, the significance can be enhanced by a factor of 5 or more. The method utilizes quantum interference between the Higgs signal and the continuum background and is also applicable in other π‘Šβ’π‘Š and 𝑍⁒𝑍 final states.
