Abstract
Heidelberg Materials (HM), Sargent & Lundy (S&L), and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) completed a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) study for deployment of an amine-based CO 2 capture system at the Mitchell Cement Plant in Indiana. The project includes compression of captured CO 2 to a supercritical state for geological sequestration. The flue gases from 7,000 mtpd clinker plant combined with auxiliary boiler flue gases into the capture system. Auxiliary boiler supplies steam for solvent regeneration. The study developed an AACE Class 3 capital cost estimate (+30%/-20%) at approximately 30% design completion to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of capturing up to 2 million tonnes of CO 2 per year.
