Comment on “Nonlocal nucleon matrix elements in the rest frame”

Abstract

In a recent paper, “Nonlocal nucleon matrix elements in the rest frame” [1], it was observed that the next-to-leading order calculations of the renormalization factor can describe, to a few percent accuracy, the logarithm of the lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) rest frame matrix elements with separations up to distances of 0.6 fm on multiple lattice spacings. We argue that perturbative QCD breaks down at such a distance scale after resumming the associated large logarithms, while the Ansatz used in the analysis there is not justified in perturbation theory. Besides, we explain the observation in Ref. [1] and demonstrate that the Ansatz fails to describe the data for 𝑧 > 0.3 fm, showing an opposite trend. Finally, although Ref. [1] proposes multiplying the Ansatz by a Gaussian correction model, which is shown to reduce the discrepancy with the data, this does not legitimize the use of perturbative QCD at such distance scales.

Accessing the gluon momentum fraction of nucleons through the gradient flow

We calculate the gluon momentum fraction of the nucleon using lattice QCD, with a nonperturbative renormalization technique based on the gradient flow. The gluon momentum fraction is determined on a single Wilson-clover ensemble using 𝑁 𝑓 =2 +1 flavors with pion mass 358 MeV and lattice spacing 0.094 fm. We employ the variational method to reduce excited-state contamination and apply the distillation framework to ensure a large operator basis. To reduce systematic uncertainties, we apply Bayesian model averaging to all fit procedures. We apply matching coefficients to the flow-time dependent lattice results to recover the gluon momentum fraction in the $\overline{MS}$-scheme at 2 GeV. Our final result is ⟨𝑥⟩ 𝑔 ⁢(𝜇 =2 GeV) =0.482⁢(35), where we quote only statistical uncertainties.

Collins-Soper kernel and reduced soft function in lattice QCD

We evaluate the Collins-Soper kernel and the reduced soft function in lattice QCD, incorporating 𝒪⁡(𝛼 𝑠 ) matching corrections. The calculation relies on the evaluation of the quasitransverse momentum–dependent wave function with asymmetric staple-shaped quark bilinear operators and four-point meson form factors. These quantities are computed nonperturbatively using two 𝑁 𝑓 =2 + 1 + 1 twisted-mass fermion ensembles with the same lattice spacing of 𝑎 = 0.093 fm: the first ensemble has a lattice size of 24 3 × 48 and a pion mass of 346 MeV, and the second one has a lattice size of 32 3 × 64 and a pion mass of 261 MeV. The Collins-Soper kernel and the soft function are needed for the determination of the transverse momentum–dependent parton distribution functions.

Symmetrizing relativistic three-body partial wave amplitudes

S matrix principles and symmetries impose constraints on three-particle scattering amplitudes, which can be formulated as a class of integral equations for their partial wave projections. However, these amplitudes are typically expressed in an asymmetric basis, where one of the initial and final state particles is singled out, and all quantum numbers are defined relative to this spectator. In this work, we show how to construct symmetric partial wave amplitudes, which have been symmetrized over all possible spectator combinations, using their asymmetric counterparts and sets of recoupling coefficients. We derive these recoupling coefficients for arbitrary angular momentum and isospin for arbitrary systems of spinless particles with SU(2) flavor symmetry. We propose a simple intensity observable suitable for visualizing the structure of three-body dynamics in Dalitz distributions. Finally, we provide some numerical examples of Dalitz distributions relevant for future lattice QCD calculations of 3⁢𝜋 systems and provide numerical evidence that the symmetrization procedure is consistent with expected symmetries of Dalitz plots.
