Precise measurements of branching fractions for $ {\mathrm{D}}_{\mathrm{s}}^{+} $ meson decays to two pseudoscalar mesons

We measure the branching fractions for seven $D$$^{+}_{s}$ two-body decays to pseudo-scalar mesons, by analyzing data collected at √s = 4.178 ~ 4.226 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The branching fractions are determined to be $$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{c}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}\eta \hbox{'}\right)=\left(2.68\pm 0.17\pm 0.17\pm 0.08\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to \eta \hbox{'}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(37.8\pm 0.4\pm 2.1\pm 1.2\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}\eta \right)=\left(1.62\pm 0.10\pm 0.03\pm 0.05\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to \eta {\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(17.41\pm 0.18\pm 0.27\pm 0.54\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}_S^0\right)=\left(15.02\pm 0.10\pm 0.27\pm 0.47\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(1.109\pm 0.034\pm 0.023\pm 0.035\right)\times {10}^{-3},\\ {}\mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(0.748\pm 0.049\pm 0.018\pm 0.035\right)\times {10}^{-3},\end{array}} $$ B D s + → K + η ' = 2.68 ± 0.17 ± 0.17 ± 0.08 × 10 - 3 , B D s + → η ' π + = 37.8 ± 0.4 ± 2.1 ± 1.2 × 10 - 3 , B D s + → K + η = 1.62 ± 0.10 ± 0.03 ± 0.05 × 10 - 3 , B D s + → η π + = 17.41 ± 0.18 ± 0.27 ± 0.54 × 10 - 3 , B D s + → K + K S 0 = 15.02 ± 0.10 ± 0.27 ± 0.47 × 10 - 3 , B D s + → K S 0 π + = 1.109 ± 0.034 ± 0.023 ± 0.035 × 10 - 3 , B D s + → K + π 0 = 0.748 ± 0.049 ± 0.018 ± 0.035 × 10 - 3 , where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second are systematic, and the third are from external input branching fraction of the normalization mode $ {D}_s^{+} $ D s + → K + K - π + . Precision of our measurements is significantly improved compared with that of the current world average values.

Measurement of single- and double-polarization observables in the photoproduction of 𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − meson pairs off the proton using CLAS at Jefferson Laboratory

The photoproduction of 𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − meson pairs off the proton has been studied in the reaction 𝛾⁢𝑝→𝑝⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) and the frozen-spin target (FROST) in Hall B at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. For the first time, the beam and target asymmetries, 𝐼 𝑠,𝑐 and 𝑃 𝑥,𝑦 , have been measured along with the beam-target double-polarization observables, 𝑃$^{𝑠,𝑐}_{𝑥,𝑦}$, using a transversely polarized target with center-of-mass energies ranging from 1.51 GeV up to 2.04 GeV. These data and additional 𝜋⁢𝜋 photoproduction observables from CLAS and experiments elsewhere were included in a partial-wave analysis within the Bonn-Gatchina framework. Significant contributions from 𝑠-channel resonance production are observed in addition to 𝑡-channel exchange processes. The data indicate significant contributions from 𝑁* and Δ* resonances in the third and fourth resonance regions.

Strange hadron production in Au + Au collisions at s N N = 7.7 , 11.5, 19.6, 27, and 39 GeV

In this paper, we present STAR measurements of strange hadron (K$0\atop{s}$, Λ, $\bar{Λ}$, $Ξ$ - , $\bar{Ξ}$ + , Ω - , $\bar{Ω}$ + , and Φ ) production at mid-rapidity (|y|<0.5) in Au+Au collisions at √s NN = 7.7 – 39 GeV from the Beam Energy Scan Program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). Transverse momentum spectra, averaged transverse mass, and the overall integrated yields of these strange hadrons are presented versus the centrality and collision energy. Antibaryon-to-baryon ratios(Λ/$\bar{Λ}$, $Ξ$ - / $\bar{Ξ}$ + , Ω - / $\bar{Ω}$ + ) are presented as well, and used to test a thermal statistical model and to extract the temperature normalized strangeness and baryon chemical potentials at hadronic freeze-out (μ B / T ch μ S / T ch ) in central collisions. Strange baryon-to-pion ratios are compared to various model predictions in central collisions for all energies. The nuclear modification factors (R CP ) and antibaryon-to-meson ratios as a function of transverse momentum are presented for all collision energies. The K$0\atop{s}$ R CP shows no suppression for p T up to 3.5 GeV/c at energies of 7.7 and 11.5 GeV. The $\bar{Λ}$/ K$0\atop{s}$ ratio also shows baryon-to-meson enhancement at intermediate p T (~2.5 GeV/c) in central collisions at energies above 19.6 GeV. In conclusion, both observations suggest that there is likely a change of the underlying strange quark dynamics at collision energies below 19.6 GeV.

A theory of dark pions

We present a complete model of a dark QCD sector with light dark pions, broadly motivated by hidden naturalness arguments. The dark quarks couple to the Standard Model via irrelevant Z- and Higgs-portal operators, which encode the low-energy effects of TeV-scale fermions interacting through Yukawa couplings with the Higgs field. The dark pions, depending on their CP properties, behave as either composite axion-like particles (ALPs) mixing with the Z or scalars mixing with the Higgs. The dark pion lifetimes fall naturally in the most interesting region for present and proposed searches for long-lived particles, at the LHC and beyond. This is demonstrated by studying in detail three benchmark scenarios for the symmetries and structure of the theory. Within a coherent framework, we analyze and compare the GeV-scale signatures of flavor-changing meson decays to dark pions, the weak-scale decays of Z and Higgs bosons to hidden hadrons, and the TeV-scale signals of the ultraviolet theory. New constraints are derived from B decays at CMS and from Z-initiated dark showers at LHCb, focusing on the displaced dimuon signature. We also emphasize the strong potential sensitivity of ATLAS and CMS to dark shower signals with large multiplicities and long lifetimes of the dark pions. As a key part of our phenomenological study, we perform a new data-driven calculation of the decays of a light ALP to exclusive hadronic Standard Model final states. The results are provided in a general form, applicable to any model with arbitrary flavor-diagonal couplings of the ALP to fermions.

Measurement of Υ production in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5 TeV

The production cross-sections of Υ mesons, namely Υ(1S), Υ(2S) and Υ(3S), in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5 TeV are measured with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.13 ± 0.18 pb –1 collected by the LHCb detector. The Υ mesons are reconstructed in the decay mode Υ → μ + μ – . Double differential cross-sections times branching fractions, as functions of the transverse momentum p T and the rapidity y of the Υ mesons, are measured in the range p T < 20 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The results integrated over these p T and y ranges are $\sigma \left(\textrm{Y}(1S)\right)\times \mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{Y}(1S)\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=2101\pm 33\pm 83\ \textrm{pb},$ $\sigma \left(\textrm{Y}(2S)\right)\times \mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{Y}(2S)\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=526\pm 20\pm 21\ \textrm{pb},$ $\sigma \left(\textrm{Y}(3S)\right)\times \mathcal{B}\left(\textrm{Y}(3S)\to {\mu}^{+}{\mu}^{-}\right)=242\pm 16\pm 10\ \textrm{pb},$ where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The ratios of cross-sections between measurements of two different Υ states and between measurements at different centre-of-mass energies are determined. The nuclear modification factor of Υ(1S) at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5 TeV is updated as well using the directly measured cross-section results from this analysis.

First observation of Λ c + → Λ K + π 0 and evidence of Λ c + → Λ K + π + π −

We present the first observation of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay Λ c + → Λ K + π 0 with a significance of 5.7 σ and the first evidence of Λ c + → Λ K + π + π − decay with a significance of 3.1 σ , based on e + e − annihilation data recorded by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6.4 fb − 1 , in the center-of-mass energy range from 4.600 to 4.950 GeV. We determine the branching fractions of Λ c + → Λ K + π 0 and Λ c + → Λ K + π + π − relative to their Cabibbo-favored counterparts to be B ( Λ c + → Λ K + π 0 ) B ( Λ c + → Λ π + π 0 ) = ( 2.09 ± 0.3 9 stat ± 0.0 7 syst ) × 10 − 2 and B ( Λ c + → Λ K + π + π − ) B ( Λ c + → Λ π + π + π − ) = ( 1.13 ± 0.4 1 stat ± 0.0 6 syst ) × 10 − 2 , respectively. Moreover, by combining our measured result with the world average of B ( Λ c + → Λ π + π 0 ) , we obtain the branching fraction B ( Λ c + → Λ K + π 0 ) = ( 1.49 ± 0.2 7 stat ± 0.0 5 syst ± 0.0 8 ref ) × 10 − 3 . This result significantly departs from theoretical predictions based on quark S U ( 3 ) flavor symmetry, which is underpinned by the presumption of meson pair S -wave amplitude dominance. Measurement of branching fractions and direct C P asymmetries for B → K π and B → π π decays at Belle II

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct C P asymmetries of the decays B 0 → K + π − , B + → K + π 0 , B + → K 0 π + , and B 0 → K 0 π 0 , and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct C P asymmetry of the decay B + → π + π 0 and the branching fraction of the decay B 0 → π + π − . The data are collected with the elle II detector from e + e − collisions at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387 × 10 6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain − 0.03 ± 0.13 ± 0.04 for the sum rule in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations. Measurement of 𝜔 meson production in 𝑝⁢𝑝 and 𝑝-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

We present the measurement of the 𝑝 T -differential production cross section of 𝜔 mesons in pp and 𝑝-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV at midrapidity by ALICE. In addition, the first measurement of the nuclear modification factor 𝑅 𝑝⁢Pb for 𝜔 mesons at LHC energies is presented, complementing the existing measurements of lighter neutral mesons such as the 𝜋 0 and 𝜂. Within the measured 𝑝 T range, the 𝑅 𝑝⁢Pb of 𝜔 mesons is compatible with no cold nuclear matter effects within the uncertainties, consistent with previous measurements at lower energies. The 𝜔/𝜋 0 ratio is presented for both collision systems, showing no collision system dependence within the uncertainties. The comparison to previously published 𝜔/𝜋 0 ratios at lower and higher collision energies in pp collisions suggests a decreasing trend of the ratio above 𝑝T = 4 GeV/𝑐 with increasing collision energy. The data in both collision systems are compared to predictions from PYTHIA 8, EPOS LHC, and DPMJET event generators, revealing significant shortcomings in these models’ ability to describe the production of 𝜔 mesons.

Photoproduction of η mesons off the proton for 1.2 < E γ < 4.7GeV using CLAS at Jefferson Laboratory

Photoproduction cross sections are reported for the reaction $\gamma p\to p\eta$ using energy-tagged photons and the CLAS spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory. The $\eta$ mesons are detected in their dominant charged decay mode, $\eta\to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0$, and results on differential cross sections are presented for incident photon energies between 1.2 and 4.7 GeV. These new $\eta$ photoproduction data are consistent with earlier CLAS results but extend the energy range beyond the nucleon resonance region into the Regge regime. The normalized angular distributions are also compared with the experimental results from several other experiments, and with predictions of $\eta$ MAID\,2018 and the latest solution of the Bonn-Gatchina coupled-channel analysis. Differential cross sections $d\sigma/dt$ are presented for incident photon energies $E_\gamma > 2.9$ GeV ($W > 2.5$ GeV), and compared with predictions which are based on Regge trajectories exchange in the $t$-channel (Regge models). Overall, the data confirm the expected dominance of $\rho$, $\omega$ vector-meson exchange in an analysis by the Joint Physics Analysis Center.

Search for X ( 3872 ) → π 0 π 0 χ c 1 , 2

Using 10.1 fb − 1 of e + e − collision data collected by the BESIII detector with center-of-mass energies between 4.15 GeV and 4.30 GeV, we search for the decays X ( 3872 ) → π 0 π 0 χ c 1 , 2 , where the X ( 3872 ) is produced in e + e − → γ X ( 3872 ) . No evidence above 3 σ is found for either decay. Upper limits at the 90% CL on the branching fractions of X ( 3872 ) → π 0 π 0 χ c 1 , 2 normalized to the branching fraction of X ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ are set to be B ( X ( 3872 ) → π 0 π 0 χ c 1 ) / B ( X ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ ) < 1.1 and B ( X ( 3872 ) → π 0 π 0 χ c 2 ) / B ( X ( 3872 ) → π + π − J / ψ ) < 0.5 , taking into account both statistical and systematic uncertainties. Semileptonic form factors for $$B\rightarrow D^*\ell \nu $$ at nonzero recoil from $$2+1$$-flavor lattice QCD: Fermilab Lattice and MILC Collaborations

Abstract We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the form factors for the decay $$B\rightarrow D^*\ell \nu $$ B → D ∗ ℓ ν at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC ensembles with $$N_f=2+1$$ N f = 2 + 1 flavors of asqtad sea quarks, with a strange quark mass close to its physical mass. The lattice spacings range from $$a\approx 0.15$$ a ≈ 0.15 fm down to 0.045 fm, while the ratio between the light- and the strange-quark masses ranges from 0.05 to 0.4. The valence b and c quarks are treated using the Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation, whereas the light sector employs asqtad staggered fermions. We extrapolate our results to the physical point in the continuum limit using rooted staggered heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory. Then we apply a model-independent parametrization to extend the form factors to the full kinematic range. With this parametrization we perform a joint lattice-QCD/experiment fit using several experimental datasets to determine the CKM matrix element $$|V_{cb}|$$ | V cb | . We obtain $$\left| V_{cb}\right| = (38.40 \pm 0.68_{\text {th}} \pm 0.34_{\text {exp}} \pm 0.18_{\text {EM}})\times 10^{-3}$$ V cb = ( 38.40 ± 0 . 68 th ± 0 . 34 exp ± 0 . 18 EM ) × 10 - 3 . The first error is theoretical, the second comes from experiment and the last one includes electromagnetic and electroweak uncertainties, with an overall $$\chi ^2\text {/dof} = 126/84$$ χ 2 /dof = 126 / 84 , which illustrates the tensions between the experimental data sets, and between theory and experiment. This result is in agreement with previous exclusive determinations, but the tension with the inclusive determination remains. Finally, we integrate the differential decay rate obtained solely from lattice data to predict $$R(D^*) = 0.265 \pm 0.013$$ R ( D ∗ ) = 0.265 ± 0.013 , which confirms the current tension between theory and experiment.

Measurement of the Branching Fraction Ratios R ( D + ) and R ( D * + ) Using Muonic τ Decays

The branching fraction ratios of B ¯ 0 → D + τ − ν ¯ τ and B ¯ 0 → D * + τ − ν ¯ τ decays are measured with respect to their muonic counterparts, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb − 1 collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV . The reconstructed final states are formed by combining D + mesons with τ − → μ − ν ¯ μ ν τ candidates, where the D + is reconstructed via the D + → K − π + π + decay. The results are R ( D + ) = 0.249 ± 0.043 ± 0.047 , R ( D * + ) = 0.402 ± 0.081 ± 0.085 , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The two measurements have a correlation coefficient of − 0.39 and are compatible with the standard model. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2025 CERN

JLab eta Factory Experiment in Hall D

The new experiment, JLab Eta Factory (JEF), in the experimental Hall-D at Jefferson Lab will extend the physics potential of the GlueX beyond the main spectroscopy program and study rare decays of eta mesons. Among various physics topics, the experiment will focus on decays of eta mesons to the eta -> pi0 gamma gamma final state. This decay mode provides an important information for higher-order calculations in chiral perturbation theory. The final state is ideal for the search of the leptophobic dark B-boson in the reactions eta -> B gamma, B -> pi0 gamma; and the scaler dark matter mediator S in the channel eta -> pi0 S, S -> gamma gamma. The experiment requires to upgrade the inner part of the forward lead glass calorimeter of the GlueX detector with high-granularity, high-resolution lead tungstate PbWO4 scintillating crystals. The detector will be ready to take data in 2023. I will give an overview of the JEF project.

Coherent J/ψ photoproduction at midrapidity in Pb – Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV

The coherent J∕𝜓 photoproduction cross section is measured for the first time at midrapidity in peripheral to semicentral P b − P b collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV. The centrality differential cross section d 𝜎 ∕d𝑦 is reported for the centrality range 40–90%, together with the doubly-differential cross section d 2 𝜎∕d𝑦d𝑝 T , extracted in two peripheral centrality classes. The J∕𝜓 mesons are reconstructed in the dielectron channel, in the rapidity interval |𝑦| < 0.9 using the ALICE central barrel detectors. The J∕𝜓 cross section at midrapidity is statistically compatible to the earlier ALICE measurement at forward rapidity and at the same centre-of-mass energy, and shows only a mild centrality dependence over the covered range. Several sets of theoretical calculations taking into account the hadronic overlap in the collisions but ignoring possible final-state effects from a hot expanding medium are found to give a fairly good description of the current measurements within uncertainties.
