Missing components in ΛCDM from DESI Y1 baryonic acoustic oscillation measurements: Insights from redshift remapping

We explore transformations of the Friedman-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) metric and cosmological parameters that align with observational data while aiming to gain insights into potential extensions of standard cosmological models. We modified the FLRW metric by introducing a scaling factor, e 2Θ(a) –the cosmological scaling function (CSF), which alters the standard relationship between cosmological redshift and the cosmic scale factor without affecting angular measurements or cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. Using data from DESI Year 1, Pantheon+ supernovae, and the Planck CMB temperature power spectrum, we constrained both the CSF and cosmological parameters through a Markov chain Monte Carlo approach. Our results indicate that the CSF model fits observational data with a lower Hubble constant (although it is compatible with the value given by Planck 2018 within 1σ) and is predominantly dark matter dominated. Additionally, the CSF model produces temperature and lensing power spectra similar to those predicted by the standard model, though with lower values in the CSF model at large scales. We also checked that when fitting a CSF model without dark energy to the data, we obtain a more negative conformal function. This suggests that the CSF model may offer hints about missing elements and opens up a new avenue for exploring physical interpretations of cosmic acceleration.

Bound states of Ω baryons in light nuclei

Here, we investigate bound states of light Ω 3⁢𝑥 clusters (𝑥=𝑠,𝑐), motivated by the Ω 3⁢𝑠 ⁢𝑁 potential recently developed by the HAL QCD collaboration. To regularize this potential, we remove the deeply attractive core at 𝑟 < 0.4 fm and parametrize the long-range component (𝑟 > 0.4 fm) using a two-range Gaussian form. This procedure preserves the relevant two-body bound-state energy while having a negligible effect on the Ω 3⁢𝑠⁢ 𝑁⁢𝑁 and Ω 3⁢𝑠⁢ Ω 3⁢𝑠 ⁢𝑁 systems. An effective Ω 3⁢𝑠 ⁢𝛼 potential is then constructed by fitting a two-range Gaussian function to the long-range component of the folding potential, enabling calculations of the bound-state energies of the Ω 3⁢𝑠⁢ 𝛼, Ω 3⁢𝑠⁢ 𝛼⁢𝛼, and Ω 3⁢𝑠 ⁢Ω 3⁢𝑠 ⁢𝛼 systems. The regularization procedure leads to a substantial reduction in bound-state energies compared to those obtained with the original potential. We further extend the analysis to Ω 3⁢𝑐 -cluster systems by introducing an Ω 3⁢𝑐 ⁢𝑁 interaction, derived by comparing the existing Ω 3⁢𝑠⁢ Ω 3⁢𝑠 and Ω 3⁢𝑐 ⁢Ω 3⁢𝑐 potentials. Our results suggest that several parametrizations predict bound states in Ω 3⁢𝑐 -containing clusters. Finally, the Ω 3⁢𝑠 ⁢Ω 3⁢𝑠 interaction is described using a contactlike potential approach, motivated by the effective field theory.

Baryon–antibaryon photoproduction cross sections off the proton

The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Lab has observed 𝑝⁢$\overline{p}$ and, for the first time, Λ$\overlineΛ$ and 𝑝$\overlineΛ$ photoproduction from a proton target at photon energies up to 11.6 GeV. The angular distributions are forward peaked for all produced pairs, consistent with Regge-like 𝑡-channel exchange. Asymmetric wide-angle antibaryon distributions show the presence of additional processes. In a phenomenological model, we find consistency with a double-𝑡-channel exchange process where antibaryons are created only at the middle vertex. The model matches all observed distributions with a small number of free parameters. In the hyperon channels, we observe a clear distinction between photoproduction of the Λ$\overlineΛ$ and 𝑝$\overlineΛ$ systems but general similarity to the 𝑝$\overline{p}$ system. We report both total cross sections and cross sections differential with respect to momentum transfer and the invariant masses of the created particle pairs. No narrow resonant structures were found in these reaction channels. The suppression of 𝑠$\overline{s}$ quark pairs relative to 𝑑$\overline{d}$ quark pairs is similar to what has been seen in other reactions.

Search for the rare decay of charmed baryon Λ c + into the p μ + μ − final state

A search for the nonresonant Λ c + → p μ + μ − decay is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb − 1 . No evidence for the decay is found in the dimuon invariant-mass regions where the expected contributions of resonances is subdominant. The upper limit on the branching fraction of the Λ c + → p μ + μ − decay is determined to be 2.9 ( 3.2 ) × 10 − 8 at 90 % ( 95 % ) confidence level. The branching fractions in the dimuon invariant-mass regions dominated by the η , ρ and ω resonances are also determined. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration 2024 CERN

Muon-induced baryon number violation

The search for charged-lepton flavor violation in muon capture on nuclei is a powerful probe of heavy new physics. A smoking gun signal for μ → e conversion is a monochromatic electron with energy almost equal to the muon mass. We show that light new physics can mimic this signature and that it can also lead to electrons above the μ → e signal peak. A concrete example of such light new physics is μ − -nucleon annihilation into a light dark sector, which can produce an energetic e − as well as e + e − by-products. Due to the size of the muon mass, the exotic muon capture process can be kinematically allowed, while the otherwise stringent constraints, e.g., from proton decay, are kinematically forbidden. We also discuss other relevant constraints, including those from the stability of nuclei and muon capture in the interior of neutron stars. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Distortion of the Microwave Blackbody Background Radiation Implied by the Baryon-symmetric Cosmology of Omnes and the Galaxy Formation Theory of Stecker and Puget

Theories on the evolution of the universe are evaluated. Particular attention was given to Omnes and Stecker and Puget theories. Data cover distortion of the microwave black body background energy distribution at red shifts between 10,000 and 1.000, and black body distortion due to antimatter and annihilation reactions.
