High-field magnetic phase diagrams of the 𝑅⁢Mn 6 ⁢Sn 6 (𝑅=Gd–Tm) kagome metals

𝑅⁢Mn 6 ⁢Sn 6 (𝑅=Y, Gd–Lu) kagome metals are promising materials hosting flat electronic bands and Dirac points that interact with magnetism. The coupling between the two magnetic 𝑅 and Mn sublattices can drive complex magnetic states with potential consequences for spin and charge transport and other topological properties. Here, in this work, we use a detailed magnetic Hamiltonian to calculate and predict the magnetic phase diagrams for 𝑅⁢Mn 6 ⁢Sn 6 kagome metals within the mean-field approximation. These calculations reveal a variety of collinear, noncollinear, and noncoplanar phases that arise from competition between various interlayer magnetic exchange interactions and magnetic anisotropies of the 𝑅 and Mn ions. We enumerate these phases and their magnetic space groups for future analysis of their impact on topological and trivial bands near the Fermi surface.

Nonperturbative phase diagram of two-dimensional N = ( 2 , 2 ) super-Yang-Mills theory

We consider two-dimensional N = ( 2 , 2 ) Yang-Mills theory with gauge group SU ( N ) in Euclidean signature compactified on a torus with thermal fermion boundary conditions imposed on one cycle. We perform nonperturbative lattice analyses of this theory for large 12 ≤ N ≤ 20 . Although no holographic dual of this theory is yet known, we conduct numerical investigations to check for features similar to the two-dimensional N = ( 8 , 8 ) Yang–Mills theory, which has a well-defined gravity dual. We perform lattice field theory calculations to determine the phase diagram, observing a spatial deconfinement transition similar to the maximally supersymmetric case. However, the transition does not continue to low temperature, implying the absence of a topology-changing transition between black hole geometries in any holographic dual for this four-supercharge theory. Deep reinforcement learning for complex evaluation of one-loop diagrams in quantum field theory

In this paper we present a technique based on deep reinforcement learning that allows for numerical analytic continuation of integrals that are often encountered in one-loop diagrams in quantum field theory. To extract certain quantities of two-point functions, such as spectral densities, mass poles or multiparticle thresholds, it is necessary to perform an analytic continuation of the correlator in question. At one-loop level in Euclidean space, this results in the necessity to deform the integration contour of the loop integral in the complex plane of the square of the loop momentum, to avoid nonanalyticities in the integration plane. Using a toy model for which an exact solution is known, we train a reinforcement learning agent to perform the required contour deformations. We report our study shows great promise for an agent to be deployed in iterative numerical approaches used to compute nonperturbative two-point functions, such as the quark propagator Dyson-Schwinger equation, or more generally, Fredholm equations of the second kind, in the complex domain.

First-Principles Calculation of Electroweak Box Diagrams from Lattice QCD

We present the first realistic lattice QCD calculation of the $γ W$-box diagrams relevant for beta decays. The nonperturbative low-momentum integral of the $γ W$ loop is calculated using a lattice QCD simulation, complemented by the perturbative QCD result at high momenta. Using the pion semileptonic decay as an example, we demonstrate the feasibility of the method. By using domain wall fermions at the physical pion mass with multiple lattice spacings and volumes, we obtain the axial γ W -box correction to the semileptonic pion decay, $\square$$\frac{VA}{γW}|_π$ = 2.830 (11) stat (26 )syst × 10 –3 , with the total uncertainty controlled at the level of ~1% . This study sheds light on the first-principles computation of the $γ W$-box correction to the neutron decay, which plays a decisive role in the determination of $|V_ud|$ .

Orbital Chern Insulator and Quantum Phase Diagram of a Kagome Electron System with Half-Filled Flat Bands

In this work, we study the quantum phase diagram of electrons on kagome lattice with half-filled lowest flat bands by considering the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg interaction J, and short-range Coulomb interaction V. In the weak J regime, we identify a fully spin-polarized phase. The presence of finite V drives a spontaneous chiral current, which makes the system an orbital Chern insulator by contributing an orbital magnetization. Such an out-of-plane orbital magnetization allows the presence of a Chern insulating phase independent of the spin orientation in contrast to the spin-orbit coupling induced Chern insulator that disappears with inplane ferromagnetism constrained by symmetry. Such a symmetry difference provides a criterion to distinguish the physical origin of topological responses in kagome systems. The orbital Chern insulator is robust against small coupling J. By further increasing J, we find that the ferromagnetic topological phase is suppressed, which first becomes partially polarized and then enters a nonmagnetic phase with spin and charge nematicity. The frustrated flat band allows the spin and Coulomb interaction to play an essential role in determining the quantum phases.

Complexity Phase Diagram for Interacting and Long-Range Bosonic Hamiltonians

Here, we classify phases of a bosonic lattice model based on the computational complexity of classically simulating the system. We show that the system transitions from being classically simulable to classically hard to simulate as it evolves in time, extending previous results to include on-site number-conserving interactions and long-range hopping. Specifically, we construct a complexity phase diagram with easy and hard “phases” and derive analytic bounds on the location of the phase boundary with respect to the evolution time and the degree of locality. We find that the location of the phase transition is intimately related to upper bounds on the spread of quantum correlations and protocols to transfer quantum information. Remarkably, although the location of the transition point is unchanged by on-site interactions, the nature of the transition point does change. Specifically, we find that there are two kinds of transitions, sharp and coarse, broadly corresponding to interacting and noninteracting bosons, respectively. Our Letter motivates future studies of complexity in many-body systems and its interplay with the associated physical phenomena.

Quantum Phase Diagram and Spontaneously Emergent Topological Chiral Superconductivity in Doped Triangular-Lattice Mott Insulators

The topological superconducting state is a highly sought-after quantum state hosting topological order and Majorana excitations. Here, in this Letter, we explore the mechanism to realize the topological superconductivity (TSC) in the doped Mott insulators with time-reversal symmetry (TRS). Through large-scale density matrix renormalization group study of an extended triangular-lattice t–J model on the six- and eight-leg cylinders, we identify a d + id-wave chiral TSC with spontaneous TRS breaking, which is characterized by a Chern number C=2 and quasi-long-range superconducting order. We map out the quantum phase diagram with by tuning the next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) electron hopping and spin interaction. In the weaker NNN-coupling regime, we identify a pseudogaplike phase with a charge stripe order coexisting with fluctuating superconductivity, which can be tuned into d -wave superconductivity by increasing the doping level and system width. The TSC emerges in the intermediate-coupling regime, which has a transition to a d-wave superconducting phase with larger NNN couplings. The emergence of the TSC is driven by geometrical frustrations and hole dynamics which suppress spin correlation and charge order, leading to a topological quantum phase transition.

Simulations of Stochastic Fluid Dynamics near a Critical Point in the Phase Diagram

Here, we present simulations of stochastic fluid dynamics in the vicinity of a critical endpoint belonging to the universality class of the Ising model. This study is motivated by the challenge of modeling the dynamics of critical fluctuations near a conjectured critical endpoint in the phase diagram of quantum chromodynamics (QCD). We focus on the interaction of shear modes with a conserved scalar density, which is known as model H. We show that the observed dynamical scaling behavior depends on the correlation length and the shear viscosity of the fluid. As the correlation length is increased or the viscosity is decreased we observe a crossover from the dynamical exponent of critical diffusion, z≃4, to the expected scaling exponent of model H, z≃3. We use our method to investigate the time-dependent correlation function of non-Gaussian moments M n (t) of the order parameter. We find that the relaxation time depends in a nontrivial manner on the power n.

Magnetism and T-x phase diagrams of Na- and Ag-substituted EuCd 2 As 2

EuCd 2 As 2 is an antiferromagnetic semimetal, that can host non-trivial topological properties, depending upon its magnetic state and excitations. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of Eu(Cd 1-x Ag x ) 2 As 2 and Eu 1-y Na y Cd 2 As 2 , and study the evolution and nature of magnetic order with doping. Temperature-substitution phase diagrams are constructed from the electrical resistance and magnetic susceptibility data. We observe a splitting of the magnetic transition into two different transitions, and the gradual increase in one of the transition temperatures with Agand Na-substitution. The other transition remains more or less independent of doping. Further, we show that a magnetic state with a net ferromagnetic moment is stabilized by both Ag and Na doping and this can be explained by considering the changes in band filling due to substitution as suggested by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. We thus show that chemical substitution and the subsequent changes in band filling could be a pathway to tune the magnetic ground state and to stabilize a ferromagnetic phase in EuCd 2 As 2 .

Phase diagram of the three-dimensional subsystem toric code

Subsystem quantum error-correcting codes typically involve measuring a sequence of noncommuting parity check operators. They can sometimes exhibit greater fault tolerance than conventional codes, which use commuting checks. However, unlike subspace codes, it is unclear if subsystem codes—in particular their advantages—can be understood in terms of ground-state properties of a physical Hamiltonian. In this paper, we address this question for the three-dimensional subsystem toric code (3D STC), as recently constructed by Kubica and Vasmer [], which exhibits single-shot error correction. Motivated by a conjectured relation between single-shot properties and thermal stability, we study the zero- and finite-temperature phases of an associated noncommuting Hamiltonian. By mapping the Hamiltonian model to a pair of 3D Z 2 gauge theories coupled by a kinetic constraint, we find various phases at zero temperature, all separated by first-order transitions: There are 3D toric code-like phases with deconfined point-like excitations in the bulk, and there are phases with a confined bulk supporting a 2D toric code on the surface when appropriate boundary conditions are chosen. The latter is similar to the surface topological order present in 3D STC. However, the similarities between the single-shot correction in 3D STC and the confined phases are only partial: they share the same sets of degrees of freedom, but they are governed by different dynamical rules. Instead, we argue that the process of single-shot error correction can more suitably be associated with a path (rather than a point) in the zero-temperature phase diagram, a perspective, which inspires alternative measurement sequences enabling single-shot error correction. Moreover, since none of the above-mentioned phases survives at nonzero temperature, the single-shot error-correction property of the code does not imply thermal stability of the associated Hamiltonian phase. Topological phase diagram of generalized Su-Schrieffer-Heeger models with interactions

We investigate interacting Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) chains with two- and three-site unit cells using density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) simulations. By selecting appropriate filling fractions and sweeping across interaction strength 𝐽 𝑧 and dimerization 𝛿, we map out their phase diagrams and identify transition lines via entanglement entropy and magnetization measurements. In the two-site model, we observe the emergence of an interaction-induced antiferromagnetic intermediate phase between the topologically trivial and nontrivial regimes, as well as a critical region at negative 𝐽 𝑧 with suppressed magnetization and finite-size scaling of entanglement entropy. In contrast, the three-site model lacks an intermediate phase and exhibits asymmetric edge localization and antiferromagnetic ordering in both positive and negative 𝐽 𝑧 regimes. We further examine the response of edge states to Ising perturbations. In the two-site model, zero-energy edge modes are topologically protected and remain robust up to a finite interaction strength. However, in the three-site model, where the edge states reside at finite energy, this protection breaks down. Despite this, the edge-localized nature of these states survives in the form of polarized modes whose spatial profiles reflect the noninteracting limit.

Feynman diagrams for matter wave interferometry

We introduce a new theoretical framework based on Feynman diagrams to compute phase shifts in matter wave interferometry. The method allows for analytic computation of higher order quantum corrections, beyond the traditional semi-classical approximation. These additional terms depend on the finite size of the initial matter wavefunction and/or have higher order dependence on ℏ. We apply the method to compute the response of matter wave interferometers to power law potentials and potentials with an arbitrary spatial dependence. The analytic expressions are validated by comparing to numerical simulations, and estimates are provided for the scale of the quantum corrections to the phase shift response to the gravitational field of the earth, anharmonic trapping potentials, and gravitational fields from local proof masses. We also find that for certain experimentally feasible parameters, these corrections are large enough to be measured and could lead to systematic errors if they are not mitigated. We find that to first order in a spatially dependent potential, quantum corrections vanish when the initial matter wavepacket has spherical symmetry and the potential satisfies Laplace's equation. We anticipate these quantum corrections will be especially important for trapped matter wave interferometers and for free-space matter wave interferometers in the presence of proof masses. These interferometers are becoming increasingly sensitive tools for mobile inertial sensing, gravity surveying, tests of gravity and its interplay with quantum mechanics, and searches for dark energy.

Magnetic phase diagram mapping in Fe 1- x Rh x composition-spread thin films

We have fabricated high-quality polycrystalline Fe 1- x Rh x composition-spread thin films by cosputtering Fe and Rh, and investigated their structural and magnetic transformations as a systematic function of composition. With increasing Rh concentration, Fe 1-x Rh x thin film undergoes from an α' phase to a disordered γ phase and also shows a magnetic transition from a ferromagnetic phase to a paramagnetic phase. Vibrating-sample magnetometry and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements show an antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic transition in the range of 0.52 < x < 0.58 in the Fe 1- x Rh x composition gradient at room temperature. Based on our structural and magnetic property mapping, we construct a thin-film phase diagram of Fe 1- x Rh x . Compared to reported results in bulk alloys, the antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic transition in the Fe 1- x Rh x thin films was found to occur at slightly higher Rh concentrations, while the boundary between the pure γ phase and the α'/ γ mixed phase region is shifted to the lower concentration Rh.

Superconducting phase diagram of multilayer square-planar nickelates

The discovery of superconductivity in square-planar nickelates has offered a rich materials platform to explore the origins of high-temperature superconductivity. However, experimental investigations have largely been limited to the infinite-layer R NiO 2 ( R , rare earth) nickelates. For this work we constructed a phase diagram of multilayer square-planar Nd n+1 Ni n O 2n+2 compounds and found signatures of superconductivity for dimensionality n = 4 to 8. Upon decreasing n , the superconducting anisotropy evolves owing to 4ƒ electron effects, and electronic structure characteristics approach cuprate-like behavior. Magnetic fluctuations persist from within the superconducting regime and into the overdoped, nonsuperconducting regime. The superconducting regime overlaps with that of chemically doped infinite-layer nickelates, demonstrating underlying commonalities as well as differences across varying structural realizations of square-planar nickelates. Our work establishes this layered template for creating new nickel-based superconductors.

ADG: automated generation and evaluation of many-body diagrams

The goal of the present paper is twofold. First, a novel expansion many-body method applicable to superfluid open-shell nuclei, the so-called Bogoliubov in-medium similarity renormalization group (BIMSRG) theory, is formulated. This generalization of standard single-reference IMSRG theory for closed-shell systems parallels the recent extensions of coupled cluster, self-consistent Green’s function or many-body perturbation theory. Within the realm of IMSRG theories, BIMSRG provides an interesting alternative to the already existing multi-reference IMSRG (MR-IMSRG) method applicable to open-shell nuclei. The algebraic equations for low-order approximations, i.e., BIMSRG(1) and BIMSRG(2), can be derived manually without much difficulty. However, such a methodology becomes already impractical and error prone for the derivation of the BIMSRG(3) equations, which are eventually needed to reach high accuracy. Based on a diagrammatic formulation of BIMSRG theory, the second objective of the present paper is thus to describe the third version (v3.0) of the code that automatically (1) generates all valid BIMSRG(n) diagrams and (2) evaluates their algebraic expressions in a matter of seconds. This is achieved in such a way that equations can easily be retrieved for both the flow equation and the Magnus expansion formulations of BIMSRG. Expanding on this work, the first future objective is to numerically implement BIMSRG(2) (eventually BIMSRG(3)) equations and perform ab initio calculations of mid-mass open-shell nuclei.

Chiral spin symmetry and the QCD phase diagram

Lattice QCD simulations with chirally symmetric quarks have recently established approximate SU(2) CS and SU(2N F ) symmetries of the quantum effective action in a temperature range above the chiral crossover T ch , in which color-electric interactions between quarks dominate the dynamics. We show that such an intermediate temperature range between the chirally broken and plasma regimes is fully consistent with published screening mass spectra, which demonstrate the breakdown of thermal perturbation theory at the crossover between the partonic and the chiral spin symmetric regime at T s ~(2–3)T ch . From the known behavior of screening masses with baryon chemical potential, we deduce qualitatively how this chiral spin symmetric band extends into the QCD phase diagram. In the cold and dense region, we propose parity doubled baryons as possible candidates for chiral spin symmetric matter. This represents a special case of quarkyonic matter with confinement and restored chiral symmetry, and can smoothly transform to quark matter at sufficiently high densities. Finally, we discuss the potential of dilepton spectra to identify such matter forms.
