Near Infrared Plasmonic Properties in Spinel Metal Oxide Nanocrystals [Poster]

Spinel iron oxide nanocrystals are shown to support NIR LSPR. LSPR is dependent on size and Fe 2+ : Fe 3+ ratio and can be tuned to cover telecommunications region via various synthetic controls. Coupling IR emitting QDs with Fe 3 O 4 nanocrystals exhibiting overlapping plasmonic behavior resulted in faster emission. Plasmonic nanocavity optimizes the Purcell effect. Future work aims to integrate Fe 3 O 4 nanocubes into nanogap antenna construction.

Optical to Near-infrared Transmission Spectrum of the Warm Sub-Saturn HAT-P-12b

We present the transmission spectrum of HAT-P-12b through a joint analysis of data obtained from the Hubble Space Telescope Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph and Wide Field Camera 3 and Spitzer, covering the wavelength range 0.3–5.0 μm. We detect a muted water vapor absorption feature at 1.4 μm attenuated by clouds, as well as a Rayleigh scattering slope in the optical indicative of small particles. We interpret the transmission spectrum using both the state-of-the-art atmospheric retrieval code SCARLET and the aerosol microphysics model CARMA. These models indicate that the atmosphere of HAT-P-12b is consistent with a broad range of metallicities between several tens to a few hundred times solar, a roughly solar C/O ratio, and moderately efficient vertical mixing. Cloud models that include condensate clouds do not readily generate the submicron particles necessary to reproduce the observed Rayleigh scattering slope, while models that incorporate photochemical hazes composed of soot or tholins are able to match the full transmission spectrum. From a complementary analysis of secondary eclipses by Spitzer, we obtain measured depths of 0.042% ± 0.013% and 0.045% ± 0.018% at 3.6 and 4.5 μm, respectively, which are consistent with a blackbody temperature of 890{sup +60} {sub −70} K and indicate efficient day–night heat recirculation. HAT-P-12b joins the growing number of well-characterized warm planets that underscore the importance of clouds and hazes in our understanding of exoplanet atmospheres.

Two and three-dimensional near infrared subcutaneous structure imager using realtime nonlinear video processing

A method includes placing an imaging device in contact with a sample, irradiating the sample via an illuminator such that radiation scatters off of the structure, and providing the scattered radiation to a detector to generate a digital video signal. A processor then performs various operations including subtracting a sum of a black state value and a user-defined black level clamping value from the digital video signal to create subtracted image data, substituting negative values in the subtracted image data with a reference value to create modified image data, and amplifying the modified image data by a user-defined gain to create contrast enhanced image data.

Cyanobacteriochromes active in the far-red to near-infrared

The present invention provides a protein fusion construct comprising a far-red cyanobacteriochrome (CBCR) domain linked to a heterologous domain, wherein the far-red CBCR domain comprises a CBCR polypeptide and a tetrapyrrole chromophore. The invention also provides nucleic acids, expression cassettes, vectors, and host cells for expression of the far-red CBCR protein fusion constructs. Methods for detecting cellular components, methods for imaging biological structures, and method for modulating cellular processes using the protein fusion constructs are also provided.

Targeted near-infrared imaging by metal-organic frameworks

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) comprising amines on the organic linker can be used for cell targeting. In particular, primary amine groups represent one of the most versatile chemical moieties for conjugation to biologically relevant molecules, including antibodies and enzymes. Different chemical conjugation schemes can be used to conjugate biological molecules to the amino functionality on the organic linker. For example, carbodiimide chemistry can be used to link a primary amine to available carboxyl groups on the protein. For example, sulfhydryl crosslinking chemistry can be used via Traut's reagent scheme. As a demonstration of the invention, the ability of EpCAM antibody-targeted MOFs to bind to a human epithelial cell line (A549), a common target for imaging studies, was confirmed with confocal microscopy.
