PT-Symmetry-Breaking Gyroscopes

PT-symmetric gyros will not work as originally-envisioned under a variety of conditions. Gyros with broken symmetry have advantages. Gain saturation helps by boosting sensitivity and allowing operation farther from Exceptional Point (EP). Experiments are getting better at demonstrating enhanced sensitivity. Claim: a Fast Light (FL) laser is simply one that operates at an EP.

Nulling Interferometry: Symmetry Requirements and Experimental Results

This paper provides a derivation from first principles of the stringent symmetry and stability requirements which deep stellar nulling demands, and also includes a brief status report on recent nulling results obtained with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's fiber-coupled rotational-shearing interferometer.
