Timelike meson form factors beyond the elastic region from lattice QCD

We present a calculation of the vector-isovector timelike form factors of the pion and the kaon using lattice quantum chromodynamics. We calculate two-point correlation functions with m π ∼ 280 MeV , extracting both the finite-volume spectrum and matrix elements for these states created from the vacuum by a vector current. After determining the coupled-channel π π , K K ¯ scattering amplitudes, we perform the necessary correction for the significant finite-volume effects present in the current matrix elements, leading to the timelike form factors. We find these to be dominated by the presence of the ρ resonance, and we extract its decay constant by an analytic continuation of the amplitudes to the resonance pole. In addition, the spacelike pion form factor is determined on the same lattice configurations, and a dispersive parametrization is used to simultaneously describe the spacelike and elastic timelike regions. Two- and three-meson scattering amplitudes with physical quark masses from lattice QCD

We study systems of two and three mesons composed of pions and kaons at maximal isospin using four CLS ensembles with 𝑎 ≈ 0.063 fm, including one with approximately physical quark masses. Using the stochastic Laplacian-Heaviside method, we determine the energy spectrum of these systems including many levels in different momentum frames and irreducible representations. Using the relativistic two- and three-body finite-volume formalism, we constrain the two- and three-meson K matrices, including not only the leading 𝑠 wave, but also 𝑝 and 𝑑 waves. By solving the three-body integral equations, we determine, for the first time, the physical-point scattering amplitudes for 3⁢𝜋 + , 3⁢𝐾 + , 𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝐾 + , and 𝐾 + ⁢𝐾 + ⁢𝜋 + systems. These are determined for total angular momentum 𝐽 𝑃 = 0 − , 1 + , and 2 − . We also obtain accurate results for 2⁢𝜋 + , 𝜋 + ⁢𝐾 + , and 2⁢𝐾 + phase shifts. We compare our results to chiral perturbation theory and to phenomenological fits.

Counting linearly polarized gluons with lattice QCD

We outline an approach to calculate the transverse-momentum-dependent distribution of linearly polarized gluons inside an unpolarized hadron on the lattice with the help of large momentum effective theory. To achieve this purpose, we propose calculating a Euclidean version of the degree of polarization for a fast-moving hadron on the lattice, which is ultraviolet finite, and no soft function subtraction is needed. It indicates a practical way to explore the distribution of the linearly polarized gluons in a proton and the linearly polarized gluon effects in hadron collisions on the lattice.

Near-threshold states in coupled D D * − D * D * scattering from lattice QCD

The first determination of doubly charmed isospin-0 coupled-channel D D * − D * D * scattering amplitudes from lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is presented. The finite-volume spectrum is computed for three lattice volumes with a light-quark mass corresponding to m π ≈ 391 MeV and is used to extract the scattering amplitudes in J P = 1 + via the Lüscher quantization condition. By analytically continuing the scattering amplitudes to complex energies, a T c c pole corresponding to a virtual bound state is found below D D * threshold. We also find a second pole, T c c ′ , corresponding to a resonance pole below the kinematically closed D * D * channel, to which it has a strong coupling. A nonzero coupling is robustly found between the S -wave D D * and D * D * channels producing a clear cusp in the D D * amplitude at the D * D * threshold energy. This suggests that the experimental T c c ′ should be observable in D D * and D * D * final states at ongoing experiments. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Proton isovector helicity PDF at NNLO and the twist-3 moment $\tilde{d}$ 2 from lattice QCD at physical quark masses

We present a lattice quantum chromodynamics calculation of the 𝑥-dependent isovector quark helicity parton distribution function (PDF) of the proton in the large momentum effective theory (LaMET) framework. Through operator product expansion (OPE) we also extract the $\tilde{d}$ 2 moment of the twist-3 PDF 𝑔 𝑇 ⁡(𝑥) for the first time in the $\overline{MS}$ scheme, which is proportional to the average color Lorentz force experienced by the quark in the proton. This calculation is performed on a lattice of spacing 𝑎 =0.076 fm at physical quark masses. The quasi-PDF matrix elements are measured in proton states boosted to momenta 𝑃 𝑧 ={0,0.25,1.02,1.53} GeV. We first extract the lowest few helicity PDF moments from the renormalization-group (RG) invariant ratios of the matrix elements with OPE. Combined with the matrix elements relevant for 𝑔 𝑇 ⁡(𝑥), we obtain $\tilde{d}$$^{u-d}_2$⁡(2 GeV) =0.0024⁢(46) at next-to-leading order in $\overline{MS}$. Then, the helicity quasi-PDF matrix elements are renormalized in the hybrid scheme with linear renormalon resummation and Fourier transformed to the 𝑥-space after an asymptotic extrapolation. The quasi-PDF is perturbatively matched to the $\overline{MS}$ PDF with RG and threshold resummations at next-to-leading power and next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracies. After resummations, we determine the PDF in the region 𝑥 ∈[0.25,0.75]. The end-point regions are then parametrized, combined with the LaMET prediction at moderate 𝑥, and fitted to the short-distance matrix elements in coordinate space.

Resummation for lattice QCD calculation of generalized parton distributions at nonzero skewness

Large-momentum effective theory (LaMET) provides an approach to directly calculate the x-dependence of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) on a Euclidean lattice through power expansion and a perturbative matching. When a parton’s momentum becomes soft, the corresponding logarithms in the matching kernel become non-negligible at higher orders of perturbation theory, which requires a resummation. But the resummation for the off-forward matrix elements at nonzero skewness ξ is difficult due to their multi-scale nature. In this work, we demonstrate that these logarithms are important only in the threshold limit, and derive the threshold factorization formula for the quasi-GPDs in LaMET. We then propose an approach to resum all the large logarithms based on the threshold factorization, which is implemented on a GPD model. We demonstrate that the LaMET prediction is reliable for [−1 + x 0 , −ξ − x 0 ] ∪ [−ξ + x 0 , ξ − x 0 ] ∪ [ξ + x 0 , 1 − x 0 ], where x 0 is a cutoff depending on hard parton momenta. Through our numerical tests with the GPD model, we demonstrate that our method is self-consistent and that the inverse matching does not spread the nonperturbative effects or power corrections to the perturbatively calculable regions.

Lattice QCD constraints on the critical point from an improved precision equation of state

In this paper we employ lattice simulations to search for the critical point of QCD. We search for the onset of a first-order QCD transition on the phase diagram by following contours of constant entropy density from imaginary to real chemical potentials under conditions of strangeness neutrality. We scan the phase diagram and investigate whether these contours meet to determine the probability that the critical point is located in a certain region on the 𝑇−𝜇 𝐵 plane. To achieve this we introduce a new, continuum extrapolated equation of state at zero density with improved precision using lattices with 𝑁 𝜏 =8, 10, 12, 16 time slices, and supplement it with new data at imaginary chemical potential. The current precision allows us to exclude, at the 2⁢𝜎 level, the existence of a critical point at 𝜇 𝐵 <450 MeV.

Empirical investigation of nuclear correlation function distributions in lattice QCD

Two-point correlation functions of systems with baryon number 𝐵 ∈ {1,2,3,4} are investigated using lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD). In particular, the empirical distributions of importance-sampling Monte-Carlo samples of these correlation functions are examined as a function of the spacetime separation between the two points and the baryon number. While the exact forms of these distributions are not known for QCD, recent work has determined asymptotic expressions for analogous correlation function distributions in simpler theories such as scalar field theory and the disordered phase of the 𝑂⁡(𝑁) model. The theoretical 𝑂⁡(𝑁) model distributions are found to provide an accurate description of the empirical QCD distributions at zero momentum over a wide range of temporal separations for each baryon number when assessed with a range of different statistical tests. In particular, the behavior of the baryon number 𝐵 QCD correlation function at large temporal separation is well reproduced by the 𝑂⁡(𝑁 ∼ 2/𝐵) model distribution.
