Programing Structural Synthesis System

Program aids research in analysis and optimization. Programing Structural Synthesis System (PROSSS2) developed to provide structural-synthesis capability by combining access to SPAR with CONMIN program and set of interface procedures. SPAR is large general-purpose finite-element structural-analysis program, and CONMIN is large general-purpose optimization program. PROSSS2 written in FORTRAN IV for batch execution.

Turbulence program for propulsion systems

Program goals at the Center for Modeling of Turbulence and Transition (CMOTT), NASA Lewis Research Center, are (1) to develop reliable turbulence (including bypass transition) and combustion models for complex flows in propulsion systems and (2) to integrate developed models into deliverable CFD tools for propulsion systems in collaboration with industry. This viewgraph presentation covers the following topics: development of turbulence and combustion models; collaboration with industry and technology transfer; isotropic eddy viscosity models; algebraic Reynolds stress models; scalar turbulence models; second order closure models; multiple scale k-epsilon models; and PDF modeling of turbulent reacting flows.

Solar electric propulsion system /SEPS/ program plans and system definition

The status of the NASA Solar Electric Propulsion System (SEPS) program is reviewed. The plans for SEPS definition and development include the initiation of the SEPS definition phase, the procurement for full-scale development in 1980, delivery of the SEPS for integration and tests with the comet rendezvous spacecraft in 1984, and a launch in 1985 that involves a flyby of Halley's comet in 1985 and a subsequent rendezvous with the comet Tempel 2 in 1988. In preparation for this, the acquisition process for SEPS has been initiated based on mission requirements rather than system requirements.
