For upper abdominal tumors, our institutional-standard motion reduction method is the expiration breath-hold (EBH) technique, using Active Breathing Coordinator (ABC). However, an individual patient's breath-hold (BH) reproducibility (R{sub BH}) may be improved in deep inspiration or inspiration breath-hold (DIBH or IBH). This trial compared the tumor position R{sub BH}, stability (S{sub BH}), and breath-hold time (T{sub BH}) of 3 BH methods, using ABC, to personalize the selection of technique, by using a preplanning screening assessment.
The goal of this study is to clarify the underlying mechanisms of metastasis suppression by carbon-ion radiotherapy combined with immature dendritic cell immunotherapy (CiDC), which was shown previously to suppress pulmonary metastasis in an NR-S1–bearing C3H/He mouse model.
Both oncologic outcomes and patient-reported outcomes are pivotal in prostate cancer (PCa). However, it remains unknown if there is any association between these 2 outcomes. In this secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial, we investigated the association of short-term changes in patient-reported outcome with long-term event-free survival (EFS) and metastasis-free survival (MFS) in localized PCa.
Radiation therapy (RT) modulates the immune characteristics of the tumor microenvironment (TME). It is not known whether these effects are dependent on the type of RT used.
Energy deposition by ionizing radiation in micrometric targets (microdosimetry), representative of cells, is very important to understand the effect of radiation and the cellular and biological response. Microdosimetry is used to estimate quality factors for risk assessment in radiation protection and quantify Relative Biological Effectiveness (RBE) for treatment planning of hadron radiation therapy. Radiation physics has shown that ionizing radiation deposit their energy in a complex manner, the track structure. Consequently, energy deposited in a target is a function of factors like the ion type, its energy and the irradiated volume.
