Gapped toroid provides infinite resolution of delay-line pickup

Gapped toroid magnetically coupled to a delay line provides continuous adjustment of the time delay line signal retrieval. A rotating screw moves the toroid pickup parallel to the delay line. This device can be used in signal detection devices and instrumentation equipment.

Mechanism isolates load weighing cell during lifting of load

Load weighing cell used in conjuction with a hoist is isolated during lifting and manipulation of the load. A simple mechanism, attached to a crane hook, provides a screw adjustment for engaging the load cell during weighing of the load and isolating it from lift forces during hoisting of the load.

Lifting clamp positively grips structural shapes

Welded steel clamps securely grip structural shapes of various sizes for crane operations. The clamp has adjustable clamping jaws and screw-operated internal v-jaws and provides greater safety than hoisting slings presently used. The structural member can be rotated in any manner, angle, or direction without being released by the clamp.

Key-locked guard prevents accidental switch actuation

Switch guard, which locks in place on a panel, protects individual switches from accidental activation. The guard consists of a cup to cover the switch lever, a standard screw lock tumbler, and a stud that mates with a threaded adapter in the panel.

High pressure tube coupling requires no threads or flares

High pressure tube coupling connects to any straight, unthreaded, and unflared tubing end without deforming or damaging the tubing. The coupling grips the tube wall tightly between an external compression sleeve and an internal hollow mandrel. It is adaptable to standard screw fittings for test stand attachment.

Decomposition vessel

Stainless steel crucible-shaped vessel permits rapid decomposition of silicates and other refractory compounds by acids at relatively low temperatures. The vessel is lined with tetrafluoroethylene fluorocarbon resin and sealed by a sheet of the same material retained in a stainless steel screw cap.

Magnetron tuner has locking feature

Magnetron tuning arrangement features a means of moving a tuning ring axially within an anode cavity by a system of reduction gears engaging a threaded tuning shaft of lead screw. The shaft positions the tuning ring for the desired magnetron output frequency, and a washer prevents backlash.

Precisely repeatable rotary mechanism

Precision-finished lead screw and a fitted mating nut member produce a linear translatory motion. This motion is transformed to a rotary movement of a pivotal platform member. The transformation is achieved by coupling the nut member and the platform member through a pair of opposed, taut, flex bands.

Fluid injection device for high-pressure systems

Screw activated device, consisting of a compressor, shielded replaceable ampules, a multiple-element rubber gland, and a specially constructed fluid line fitting, injects measured amounts of fluids into a pressurized system. It is sturdy and easily manipulated.

Adjustable drill bar replaces complex jigs

Adjustable drill bar incorporates a micrometer screw which, when used in conjunction with standard gage blocks, provides rapid method of drill hole location and reduces time and skill requirements for precision drilling on large surfaces. Device picks up oddly dimensioned tool hole points and acts as sine drill bar.

Two-stage coaxial gas compressor

Compressor raises pressure of gases from low ambient supply during space experiments by a system of low weight, size, and power input. Dc rotary-torque motor and ball-screw drive shaft activate first and second stage of compressor, utilizing inertia forces to operate check valves.

Design and fabrication of a prototype for an automatic transport system for transferring human and other wastes to an incinerator unit onboard spacecraft, phase A

Three transport system concepts were experimentally evaluated for transferring human and nonhuman wastes from a collection site to an incineration unit onboard spacecraft. The operating parameters, merits, and shortcomings of a porous-pneumatic, nozzle-pneumatic, and a mechanical screw-feed system were determined. An analysis of the test data was made and a preliminary design of two prototype systems was prepared.

The Lick-Gaertner automatic measuring system

The Lick-Gaertner automatic equipment has been designed mainly for the measurement of stellar proper motions with reference to galaxies, and consists of two main components: the survey machine and the automatic measuring engine. The survey machine is used for initial inspection and selection of objects for subsequent measurement. Two plates, up to 17 x 17 inches each, are surveyed simultaneously by means of projection on a screen. The approximate positions of objects selected are measured by two optical screws: helical lines cut through an aluminum coating on glass cylinders. These approximate coordinates to a precision of the order of 0.03mm are transmitted to a card punch by encoders connected with the cylinders.
