Statistical analysis of the fluctuations of an initial-state model with independently distributed hot spots

Abstract We determine the uncorrelated modes that characterize the fluctuations in a semi-realistic model for the initial state of high-energy nuclear collisions, consisting of hot spots whose positions are distributed independently. Varying the number of hot spots, their size, and the weights with which they contribute to the initial state, we find that the parameter that has the largest influence on the relative importance of the fluctuation modes is the source size, with more extended hot spots leading to a more marked predominance of the principal modes.

Bayesian Statistical Analysis for Mass Spectrometric Data Processing

• Thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS) is a “gold standard’ technique for actinide isotope amount ratio and assay measurements. • Ubiquitously used in: • Nuclear Nonproliferation • Nuclear Safeguards • Nuclear Forensics • Basic Science • Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) installed a new Thermo Scientific TRITON Plus TIMS in early 2024.

Statistical Analysis of Imaging Laser Scan Data of an Exhaust Tunnel at the SRS

• The SRS H-Canyon Building is a critical facility under the responsibility of DOE-EM. • It includes an Air Exhaust Tunnel (HCAEX) that allows for ventilation of the process airflow. • Inspections are performed remotely because of hazards, e.g. radioactivity, debris, high airflow, and nitric acid vapors.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF IN-SERVICE ULTRASONIC INSPECTION DATA OF WASTE TANKS AT THE SAVANNAH RIVER Site-25021

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS •“There is no evidence of pit depth growth over the last 15-years demonstrating the effectiveness of the corrosion control program. •“Incipient pits” are not growing and are likely pre-service pits. • No need to continue measuring these tiny pits. However, due to the random nature of pit initiation and the potentially accelerated growth of a pit, periodic monitoring for pit growth is prudent. 1. No reportable pits were identified. All identified pits are far less than the reportable depth of 25% of the nominal wall thickness. 2. No cracking was identified. 3. There is no evidence that active, systemic corrosion has occurred in Tank 29 during its 38-year service history as of 2009.

Diurnal and annual temperature variations in the 30-60 km region as indicated by statistical analysis of rocketsonde temperature data.

The relatively large amount of rocketsonde data now available for selected stations together with representative estimates of the solar radiation corrections has been utilized to establish the phases and amplitudes of the diurnal temperature oscillations from 30 to 60 km. Once the magnitude of the solar radiation errors and the diurnal temperature oscillations are established, these values are used to obtain new estimates of the actual mean temperatures for each calendar month.
