Two conduction-cooled 915 MHz superconducting radio frequency hermetic assemblies must be safely transported from the Jefferson Lab in Newport News, VA to General Atomics in San Diego, CA for perfor-mance testing in a custom horizontal test cryostat. One hermetic assembly consists of a 2-cell 915 MHz cavity, a coaxial fundamental power coupler, and the warm-to-cold transition beam tubes. The second hermetic assembly consists of a 2-cell 915 MHz cavity only. The assemblies will be transported on a flatbed air-ride trailer over the approximate 4000 km distance. Design requirements included adequate attenuation of 4g vertical axis, 5g beamline axis, and 1.5g lateral axis shock events. The isolation system was designed using helical wire-rope isolators with modal and transient finite element analysis performed in Ansys. Results show shock attenuation of a 10 ms half-sine pulse input to < 1g in the vertical axis, < 1.5g in the beam-line axis, and < 0.5g in the lateral axis for both assem-blies at the specified design loads and all structural stresses are kept below the material yield limits. Addi-tionally, the natural frequencies of both isolation sys-tems adequately attenuate the fundamental modes of the critical structures.
Previous simulations have tested HTS magnets with dissipative flux flow regimens for thermal runaway. My goal was to make a system that would be able to take real world data on this for Quench Detection. My poster will show the design for a PCB I made and the test setup for conducting said experiment.
Inflatable rubber gland positions and holds X ray film in positive contact with inner weld areas of mainfold torus assemblies for verifying the weld quality. The gland is constructed to conform to the inside diameter of the manifold torus.
Optical target holder is permanently placed for instrument sighting, yet is adjustable and easily aligned.
Vacuum cleavage device for producing small area evaporated metal semiconductor contacts free from oxygen or other contamination
For chemical stripping, lead tape applied near ends to be stripped protects insulation. Taped ends are submerged half way in stripping solution. For electroplating, both ends of FCC are stripped - top ends for electric contact, others for submersion in electroplating solution.
Quick-release spring holder secures acoustic sensor to test material surface eliminating adhesive bonding to test material and achieving acoustic emission evaluation from tensile tests. Reusability of sensors reduces test cost.
A simplified technique and apparatus are described for testing the effects of vibration on various material specimen. Particular attention was given to tests along the orthogonal vibrational planes in order to prove the strength of the item under extraordinary conditions to which it will be subjected.
Six alinement templates are used to trim-cut majority of boards fabricated. Their use has reduced time required for cutting operation and has also reduced high rejection rate of cut boards to near zero.
It was demonstrated that the thickness of the stimulator titanium enclosure is directly related to the battery recharge time cycle. Reduction of the titanium enclosure thickness from approximately 0.37 mm (0.015 inch) to 0.05 mm (0.002 inch) significantly reduced the recharge time cycle and thereby patient inconvenience. However, fabrication of titanium enclosures from the thinner material introduced problems in forming, holding, and welding that required improvement in state of the art shop practices. The procedures that were utilized to resolve these fabrication problems are described.
Guide improves accuracy and reduces likelihood of bit breakage in drilling large work pieces. Drill motor is mounted on pipe that slides on furniture clamp. Drill is driven into work piece by turning furniture-clamp handle.
Work station for transferring entire strings of solar cells places successive strings alined, with offset, or reversed end for end. Thus, various solar module formats can be accommodated. Two vacuum cups hold each solar cell in string being transferred.
