Shell model analysis of the B ( E 2,2 + → 0 + ) values in the A = 70, T = 1 triplet 70 Kr, 70 Br, and 70 Se

The B(E2, 2 + → 0 + ) transition strengths of the T=1 isobaric triplet 70 Kr, 70 Br, 70 Se, recently measured at the RIKEN Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF), are discussed in terms of state-of-the-art large scale shell model calculations using the JUN45 and JUN45 + LNPS plus Coulomb interactions. In this Letter we argue that, depending on the effective charges used, the calculations are either in line with the experimental data within statistical uncertainties, or the anomaly happens in 70 Br, rather than 70 Kr. In the latter case, we suggest that it can be due to the presence of a hitherto undetected 1 + T = 0 state below the yrast 2 + T = 1 state. Furthermore, our results do not support a shape change of 70 Kr with respect to the other members of the isobaric multiplet.

Dark energy with a triplet of classical U(1) fields

Here, we present a new mechanism for cosmic acceleration consisting of a scalar field coupled to a triplet of classical U(1) gauge fields. The gauge fields are arranged in a homogeneous, isotropic configuration, with both electric- and magneticlike vacuum expectation values. The gauge fields provide a masslike term via a Chern-Simons interaction that suspends the scalar away from its potential minimum, thereby enabling potential-dominated evolution. We show this mechanism can drive a brief period of acceleration, such as dark energy, without the need for fine-tunings. We obtain simple analytic results for the dark energy equation of state and dependence on model parameters. In this model, the presence of the gauge field generically leads to a suppression of long-wavelength gravitational waves, with implications for the experimental search for cosmic microwave background B modes and direct detection of a stochastic gravitational wave background.

Temperature-Dependent Spin-Lattice Relaxation of the Nitrogen-Vacancy Spin Triplet in Diamond

Spin-lattice relaxation within the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center’s electronic ground-state spin triplet limits its coherence times, and thereby impacts its performance in quantum applications. We report measurements of the relaxation rates on the NV center’s $|m_s = 0 \rangle ↔ |m_s = ± 1 \rangle$ and $|m_s = -1 \rangle ↔ |m_s = + 1\rangle$ transitions as a function of temperature from 9 to 474 K in high-purity samples. We show that the temperature dependencies of the rates are reproduced by an ab initio theory of Raman scattering due to second-order spin-phonon interactions, and we discuss the applicability of the theory to other spin systems. Using a novel analytical model based on these results, we suggest that the high-temperature behavior of NV spin-lattice relaxation is dominated by interactions with two groups of quasilocalized phonons centered at 68.2(17) and 167(12) meV.

Quasi-Two-Dimensional Antiferromagnetic Spin Fluctuations in the Spin-Triplet Superconductor Candidate CeRh 2 As 2

The tetragonal heavy-fermion superconductor CeRh 2 ⁢As 2 (T c = 0.3 K) exhibits an exceptionally high critical field of 14 T for B ∥ c. It undergoes a field-driven first-order phase transition between superconducting states, potentially transitioning from spin-singlet to spin-triplet superconductivity. To further understand these superconducting states and the role of magnetism, we probe spin fluctuations in CeRh 2 ⁢As 2 using neutron scattering. Here, we find dynamic (π, π) antiferromagnetic (AFM) spin correlations with an anisotropic quasi-two-dimensional correlation volume. Our data place an upper limit of 0.31 μ B on the staggered magnetization of corresponding Néel orders at T = 0.08 K. Density functional theory calculations, treating Ce 4⁢ƒ electrons as core states, show that the AFM wave vector connects significant areas of the Fermi surface. Our findings indicate that the dominant excitations in CeRh 2 ⁢As 2 for ℏω⁢ < 1.2 meV are magnetic and suggest that superconductivity in CeRh 2⁢ As 2 is mediated by AFM spin fluctuations associated with a proximate quantum critical point.

On the Stark Effect of the O I 777-nm Triplet in Plasma and Laser Fields

The O I 777-nm triplet transition is often used for plasma density diagnostics. It is also employed in nonlinear optics setups for producing quasi-comb structures when pumped by a near-resonant laser field. Here, we apply computer simulations to situations of the radiating atom subjected to the plasma microfields, laser fields, and both perturbations together. Our results, in particular, resolve a controversy related to the spectral line anomalously broadened in some laser-produced plasmas. The importance of using time-dependent density matrix is discussed.

Search for Neutrino Doublets and Triplets Using 11.4 yr of IceCube Data

We report a search for high-energy astrophysical neutrino multiplets, detections of multiple neutrino clusters in the same direction within 30 days, based on an analysis of 11.4 yr of IceCube data. A new search method optimized for transient neutrino emission with a monthly timescale is employed, providing a higher sensitivity to neutrino fluxes. This result is sensitive to neutrino transient emission, reaching per-flavor flux of approximately 10 -10 erg cm -2 s -1 from the Northern Sky in the energy range E ≳ 50 TeV. The number of doublets and triplets identified in this search is compatible with the atmospheric background hypothesis, which leads us to set limits on the nature of neutrino transient sources with emission timescales of one month.
