PARET/ANL v7.7 User Guide

PARET was originally created in 1969 at what is now Idaho National Laboratory (INL), to analyze reactivity insertion events in research and test reactor cores cooled by light or heavy water, with fuel composed of either plates or pins. The use of PARET is also appropriate for fuel assemblies with curved fuel plates when their radii of curvatures are large with respect to the fuel plate thickness. The PARET/ANL version of the code has been developed at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) under the sponsorship of the U.S. Department of Energy/NNSA since the inception of the Reactor Conversion Program. Since Reduced Enrichment for Research and Test Reactors (RERTR) began in 1978, PARET/ANL has been benchmarked to experimental data including SPERT testing, and used to determine the expected transient behavior of many reactors both inside and outside the Reactor Conversion Program. This document provides the pertinent information for the use of PARET/ANL v7.7.

PETSc/TAO Users Manual Revision 3.23

This manual describes the use of the Portable, Extensible Toolkit for Scientific Computation (PETSc) and the Toolkit for Advanced Optimization (TAO) for the numerical solution of partial differential equations (PDEs) and related problems on high-performance computers. PETSc/TAO is a suite of data structures and routines that provide the building blocks for implementing large-scale application codes on parallel (and serial) computers. PETSc uses the MPI standard for all distributed memory communication.

Transition of SRT Source Term Software to Modern Version Control System to Enable More Efficient Verification, Validation, and User Engagement

The Simplified Radionuclide Transport (SRT) code assists in reactor design and licensing by providing a detailed analysis of radionuclide transport under specific transient scenarios. This analysis is essential for ensuring that reactors meet safety and regulatory standards before they are authorized to operate. Mechanistic source term analysis, which involves a realistic evaluation of radionuclide behavior from the source to the environment, is a key component of this process. It provides a comprehensive understanding of potential release scenarios, supporting the development of robust safety measures.

Incident Energy Systems Model: User Guide and Examples

U.S. Forest Service (USFS) wildfire base camps use portable power for electrical needs, including yurts and trailers from which logistics staff work during the incident. These yurts and trailers are conventionally powered by portable diesel generators. Hybrid portable power systems consisting of a combination of solar photovoltaics (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and/or backup diesel generators have been used in recent years and were piloted by the National Technology and Development Program (NTDP) on incidents in fall 2024 as part of NTDP's Portable Power Project. As part of that project, this work included the development of two Excel-based tools and two reports explaining the tools. The first tool, the Incident Energy Systems Model, is an Excel-based tool that models the power output of hybrid portable power systems powering yurts and/or trailers at fire camps over a typical day.

SIERRA Code Coupling Module: Arpeggio User Manual (V.5.26)

The SNL Sierra Mechanics code suite is designed to enable simulation of complex multiphysics scenarios. The code suite is composed of several specialized applications which can operate either in standalone mode or coupled with each other. Arpeggio is a supported utility that enables loose coupling of the various Sierra Mechanics applications by providing access to Framework services that facilitate the coupling. More importantly Arpeggio orchestrates the execution of applications that participate in the coupling. This document describes the various components of Arpeggio and their operability. The intent of the document is to provide a fast path for analysts interested in coupled applications via simple examples of its usage.

The TRANFT User Manual version 2.0

The Fortran program TRANFT has undergone significant revision. While many of the original features remain others have been modified and new capabilities have been added. A second trans verse direction is now tracked so that the tune and force distributions associated with the beam beam force and nonlinear space charge are correct. Also, general mutibunch instabilites are now treated. For symmetric coupled bunch modes one can track one bunch for purely transverse modes or a few contiguous bunches to include longitudinal modes as well. Another option which tracks all the bunchs in the ring with provision for a clearing or abort gap is also available. In addition to this a new algorithm to model the transverse voltage on crab cavities is introduced which includes the effect of various feedbacks.

Sierra/SD – Its2Sierra – User’s Manual – (V.5.26)

The Integrated Tiger Series (ITS) generates a database containing energy deposition data. This data, when stored on an Exodus file, is not typically suitable for analysis within Sierra Mechanics for finite element analysis. The its2sierra tool maps data from the ITS database to the Sierra database. This document provides information on the usage of its2sierra.
