VISIONARY: Virtual Intelligence System for Optimizing Novel Analytical Research Yields

VISIONARY is an AI system that accelerates energy materials discovery by automatically generating hypotheses about structure-property relationships. It analyzes patterns in materials data, identifies promising correlations, and proposes testable scientific hypotheses without human intervention. By streamlining this reasoning process, VISIONARY helps researchers efficiently identify candidate materials with desired properties, significantly speeding up the materials development pipeline for energy applications. During the project, we developed a standalone application. The application uses a combination of papers provided by the user and data collected from FutureHouse’s dataset to build an understanding of the background that the user wants to explore for the hypothesis.

Snap-Through Buckling Pressure Prediction of Spherical Caps: A Comparison of Analytical, Implicit, and Explicit Methods

Snap-through buckling is a nonlinear and dynamic instability that occurs in curved shell structures such as domes, pressure vessels, and aerospace panels. Unlike classical linear buckling, it involves a sudden transition between equilibrium states caused by geometric nonlinearity and rapid strain-to-kinetic energy conversion (Timoshenko & Gere, 1961; Budiansky & Roth, 1962). This study investigates the snap-through behavior of thin spherical caps using both implicit and explicit solvers in ANSYS Workbench. While implicit analysis accurately captures quasi-static response, it struggles with convergence near instability. In contrast, explicit LS-DYNA simulation naturally handles the nonlinear dynamic event with minimal tuning and computational cost.

Portable Parallel Algorithms and Frameworks for Exascale Graph Analytics

Graphs (or networks) are a tool used to model the interactions among various entities. Efficiently processing large graphs has recently attracted significant attention due to the applications of graphs in various domains, such as biology, chemistry, and cyber-security. Analyzing the structure and properties of these graphs is an important component of many scientific computing pipelines. With the explosion in the volume of data, graphs have become very large and can contain hundreds of billions of vertices and trillions of edges. Therefore, it is crucial to develop high-performance methods to enable graph analysis to be done quickly and energy-efficiently. Furthermore, these solutions should be highly parallel in order to take advantage of modern parallel machines. However, designing efficient solutions is not enough. With the wide variety of computing environments available, each with different programmability and performance characteristics, it is necessary to develop solutions that are portable in terms of both performance (i.e., provide theoretical guarantees) and programmability (i.e., provide high level abstractions).

Fission Evaluation Tools and Analytics (FETA)

This living document presents the Python package FETA. FETA computes observables resulting from the fission process. This document provides the definition of these observables as well as the physics models that are implemented to compute them. Some of these models are used to determine the initial conditions of fission fragments, e.g., the excitation energy E* and spin distribution p(J, π) at scission for prompt decay, while others are related to the nuclear structure and decay properties of the fragments, e.g. the ground-state properties, level density and low-lying excitation spectrum, γ-strength functions and electromagnetic transitions, and neutron transmission coefficients. The end goal for FETA is to enable users to substitute every one of these models by their own files providing these quantities.
