Model-independent measurement of 𝐷 0 −$\overline{D}$ 0 mixing parameters in 𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{𝑆}$⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − decays at Belle and Belle II

We perform a model-independent measurement of the 𝐷 0 −$\overline{D}$ 0 mixing parameters using samples of 𝑒 + ⁢𝑒 − -collision data collected by the Belle and Belle II experiments that have integrated luminosities of 951 fb −1 and 408 fb −1 , respectively. Approximately 2.05 × 10 6 neutral 𝐷 mesons are reconstructed in the 𝐷 0 → 𝐾$^{0}_{S}$⁢𝜋 + ⁢𝜋 − channel, with the neutral 𝐷 flavor tagged by the charge of the pion in the 𝐷* + → 𝐷 0⁢ 𝜋 + decay. Assuming charge-parity symmetry, the mixing parameters are measured to be 𝑥 = (4.0 ±1.7 ±0.4) × 10 −3 and 𝑦 = (2.9 ±1.4 ±0.3) × 10 −3 , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with previous determinations.

New baryon states in exclusive meson photo-/electroproduction with CLAS

Impressive progress achieved in the past decade in experimental studies of exclusive meson photoproduction off protons and global multichannel amplitude analyses has resulted in the discovery of several long-awaited new nucleon resonances, with a decisive impact from the results of KΛ and KΣ photoproduction measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. Further extension of these efforts towards combined studies of exclusive meson photo- and electroproduction data off protons will be presented. A new excited state of the nucleon, the N 0 (1720)3/2 +, discovered from combined analyses of π +π -p photo- and electroproduction data, in addition to new resonances discovered in photo- and hadroproduction data, demonstrate the promising prospects of this new research avenue for the discovery of additional new resonances.

Potential for tensor polarized deuterons in Hall D at Jefferson lab

Hall D at Jefferson lab is an ideal place to install a polarized deuteron target which can be “tensor polarized”, allowing the separation of the spin states m = 0, ±1 or the measurement of tensor asymmetries. The bremsstrahlung photon beam with 3 - 12 GeV endpoint provides very little heating or radiation damage compared to an electron beam, allowing the target to be run in frozen spin mode. Adiabatic fast passage spin manipulations can then be used to greatly enhance the population of the m = 0 spin state of the deuteron. Coherent photoproduction of ρ mesons from deuterium is sensitive to double-scattering at high momentum transfer and in the m = 0 spin state an additional sensitivity at intermediate momentum transfer opens up. In conclusion, we propose a frozen spin target for Hall D and the measurement of ρ photoproduced coherently from the deuteron as a flagship measurement.

Photo-Production of eta Mesons

In this work we present the GlueX experiment extensive high statistics measurements of the eta meson photo-production differential cross sections at beam energies between 3 GeV and 11.6 GeV. We compared the low energy (2.9 GeV< Ey < 5.9 GeV) differential cross section (d-sigma/d-Omega) results to previous experimental results from the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) collaboration. These (d-sigma/d-Omega) results are also compared to the theoretical isobar model EtaMAID2018 by Tiator et. al., and the Regge model by Nys et. al. The differential cross section d-sigma/dt is also presented and compared to the previous experimental results, and to the above models, in addition to a model by J. M. Laget. The high energy (6.2 GeV< Ey < 11.6 GeV) cross section results (d-sigma/d-Omega, and d-sigma/dt) are compared to the isobar model EtaMAID2018. These results will provide new constraints on eta photo-production mechanisms and high energy t-channel processes.

Mass gaps of a Z 3 gauge theory with three fermion flavors in 1 + 1 dimensions

We consider a Z 3 gauge theory coupled to three degenerate massive flavors of fermions, which we term Quantum Z(3) Dynamics, QZD. The spectrum can be computed in 1 + 1 dimensions using tensor networks. In weak coupling the spectrum is that of the expected mesons and baryons, although the corrections in weak coupling are nontrivial, analogous to those of nonrelativistic QED in 1 + 1 dimensions. In strong coupling, besides the usual baryon, the singlet meson is a baryon-antibaryon state. For two special values of the coupling constant, the lightest baryon is degenerate with the lightest octet meson, and the lightest singlet meson, respectively. The summarizes much of particle physics and cosmology. Using data from previous editions, plus 2,717 new measurements from 869 papers, we list, evaluate, and average measured properties of gauge bosons and the recently discovered Higgs boson, leptons, quarks, mesons, and baryons. We summarize searches for hypothetical particles such as supersymmetric particles, heavy bosons, axions, dark photons, etc. Particle properties and search limits are listed in Summary Tables. We give numerous tables, figures, formulae, and reviews of topics such as Higgs Boson Physics, Supersymmetry, Grand Unified Theories, Neutrino Mixing, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology, Particle Detectors, Colliders, Probability and Statistics. Most of the 120 reviews are updated, including many that are heavily revised. The is divided into two volumes. Volume 1 includes the Summary Tables and 97 review articles. Volume 2 consists of the Particle Listings and contains also 23 reviews that address specific aspects of the data presented in the Listings. The complete (both volumes) is published online on the website of the Particle Data Group () and in a journal. Volume 1 is available in print as the . A with the Summary Tables and essential tables, figures, and equations from selected review articles is available in print, as a web version optimized for use on phones, and as an Android app. The 2024 edition of the Review of Particle Physics should be cited as: S. b ¯ b ¯ u d and b ¯ b ¯ u s tetraquarks from lattice QCD using symmetric correlation matrices with both local and scattering interpolating operators

We study the b ¯ b ¯ u d tetraquark with quantum numbers I ( J P ) = 0 ( 1 + ) as well as the b ¯ b ¯ u s tetraquark with quantum numbers J P = 1 + using lattice QCD. We improve on existing work by including both local and scattering interpolating operators on both sides of the correlation functions and use symmetric correlation matrices. This allows not only a reliable determination of the energies of QCD-stable tetraquark ground states, but also of low-lying excited states, which are meson-meson scattering states. The latter is particularly important for future finite-volume scattering analyses. Here, we perform chiral and continuum extrapolations of just the ground-state energies, for which finite-volume effects are expected to be small. Our resulting tetraquark binding energies, − 100 ± 10 − 51 + 36 MeV for b ¯ b ¯ u d and − 30 ± 3 − 31 + 11 MeV for b ¯ b ¯ u s , are consistent with other recent lattice-QCD predictions. Measurement of lepton universality parameters in B + → K + ℓ + ℓ – and B 0 → K* 0 ℓ + ℓ – decays

A simultaneous analysis of the B + → K + ℓ + ℓ – and B 0 → K* 0 ℓ + ℓ – decays is performed to test muon-electron universality in two ranges of the square of the dilepton invariant mass, q 2 . The measurement uses a sample of beauty meson decays produced in proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb –1 . A sequence of multivariate selections and strict particle identification requirements produce a higher signal purity and a better statistical sensitivity per unit luminosity than previous LHCb lepton universality tests using the same decay modes. Residual backgrounds due to misidentified hadronic decays are studied using data and included in the fit model. Each of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in the given q 2 interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The results are compatible with the predictions of the Standard Model.

Dynamical model of J/ψ photoproduction on the nucleon

Here, a dynamical model based on a phenomenological charm quark-nucleon (c – N) potential v cN and the Pomeronexchange mechanism is constructed to investigate the J/ψ photoproduction on the nucleon from threshold to invariant mass W = 300 GeV. The J/ψ – N potential, V J/ψN (r), is constructed by folding v cN into the wave function φ J/ψ ($c\bar{c}$) of J/ψ within a constituent quark model (CQM) of Segovia et al. [Int. J. Mod. Phys. E 22, 1330026 (2013)]. A photoproduction amplitude is also generated by v cN by a $c\bar{c}$–loop integration over the γ → $c\bar{c}$ vertex function and φ J/ψ ($c\bar{c}$). No commonly used vector meson dominance assumption is used to define this photoproduction amplitude which is needed to describe the data near the threshold. The c – N potential v cN (r) is parameterized in a form such that the predicted V J/ψN (r) at large distances has the same Yukawa potential form extracted from a lattice QCD (LQCD) calculation of Kawanai and Sasaki, [Phys. Rev. D 82, 091501(R) (2010)]. The parameters of vcN are determined by fitting the total cross-section data of Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) by performing calculations that include J/ψ – N final-state interactions (FSI). The resulting differential cross sections dσ /dt are found in good agreements with the data. It is shown that the FSI effects dominate the cross section in the very near-threshold region, allowing for sensitive testing of the predicted J/ψ – N scattering amplitudes. By imposing the constraints of J/ψ – N potential extracted from the LQCD calculation of Kawanai and Sasaki, [Phys. Rev. D 82, 091501(R) (2010)], we have obtained three J/ψ – N potentials which fit the JLab data equally well. The resulting J/ψ – N scattering lengths are in the range of a = [-0.05, -0.25] fm. With the determined v cN (r) and the wave functions generated from the same CQM, the constructed model is used to predict the cross sections of photoproduction of η c (1S) and ψ(2S) mesons for future experimental tests.

Dalitz plots and lineshape of a 1 ( 1260 ) from a relativistic three-body unitary approach

We formulate the final-state interaction of the a 1 ( 1260 ) resonance decay in a manifestly three-body unitary parametrization and fit it to the a 1 ( 1260 ) line shape measured by the ALEPH experiment. Dalitz plots calculated from this fit are presented. The work demonstrates the feasibility to numerically solve a previously derived amplitude and its generalization to isobars with spin and coupled channels. The model can also be applied to other meson decays and modified for the finite-volume problem as it arises in lattice QCD due to its manifest unitarity.

Nucleon Resonance Electroexcitation Amplitudes and Emergent Hadron Mass

Understanding the strong interaction dynamics that govern the emergence of hadron mass (EHM) represents a challenging open problem in the Standard Model. In this paper we describe new opportunities for gaining insight into EHM from results on nucleon resonance (N*) electroexcitation amplitudes (i.e., γvpN* electrocouplings) in the mass range up to 1.8 GeV for virtual photon four-momentum squared (i.e., photon virtualities Q2) up to 7.5 GeV2 available from exclusive meson electroproduction data acquired during the 6-GeV era of experiments at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab). These results, combined with achievements in the use of continuum Schwinger function methods (CSMs), offer new opportunities for charting the momentum dependence of the dressed quark mass from results on the Q2-evolution of the γvpN* electrocouplings. This mass function is one of the three pillars of EHM and its behavior expresses influences of the other two, viz. the running gluon mass and momentum-dependent effective charge. A successful description of the Δ(1232)3/2+ and N(1440)1/2+ electrocouplings has been achieved using CSMs with, in both cases, common momentum-dependent mass functions for the dressed quarks, for the gluons, and the same momentum-dependent strong coupling. The properties of these functions have been inferred from nonperturbative studies of QCD and confirmed, e.g., in the description of nucleon and pion elastic electromagnetic form factors. Parameter-free CSM predictions for the electrocouplings of the Δ(1600)3/2+ became available in 2019. The experimental results obtained in the first half of 2022 have confirmed the CSM predictions. We also discuss prospects for these studies during the 12-GeV era at JLab using the CLAS12 detector, with experiments that are currently in progress, and canvass the physics motivation for continued studies in this area with a possible increase of the JLab electron beam energy up to 22 GeV. Such an upgrade would finally enable mapping of the dressed quark mass over the full range of distances (i.e., quark momenta) where the dominant part of hadron mass and N* structure emerge in the transition from the strongly coupled to perturbative QCD regimes.
