SAND2025-10210O VorLap is a vortex-induced vibration overlap prediction tool for static structures, such as parked wind turbines and marine turbines encountering fluid flow (water or air movement around them) that may induce vortex-induced vibration. This tool uses precomputed frequency domain data for specific cross-sectional shapes or a generalized shedding model, along with geometric data and structural natural frequency data, to identify areas and conditions where vortex-induced vibration may occur. It uses a clustering algorithm for additive manufacturing (AM) parts using generalized spherical harmonics (GSH) and Euclidean distance transform (EDT) with an autoencoder to quantify material microstructure. The tool offers improved sensitivity to microstructural changes compared to traditional approaches. The tool integrates multiple microstructural properties, such as grain morphology, crystallographic orientation, and material phase information, to provide a comprehensive analysis of material microstructures. CLDERA-E3SM

SAND2025-03846O CLDERA-E3SM enhances the E3SMv2 model by adding new options such as complete stratospheric volcanic aerosol representation and idealized physics model configuration for the atmosphere component. CLDERA-E3SM also allows for aerosol source emission specification, which is a powerful method for tracking aerosol and its climate impacts in E3SMv2. This new code better represents stratospheric sulfate aerosol and includes modifications such as changes to the default aerosol size distributions and to stratospheric aerosol microphysical treatment, which allows stratospheric sulfate aerosol to grow larger than in the default E3SMv2. New aerosol source tagging can be customized to separate the global emission of select aerosol tracers—such as sulfate, black carbon, and organic carbon aerosol—into a new, user specified list of sources. It also includes idealized simulations of the atmosphere and volcanic aerosol tracers. The software provides methods for calibrating an epidemiological model to measured case-count data for a multitude of correlated spatial regions. The code solves a Bayesian inverse problem for model calibration where the posterior over-model parameters are approximated through a custom implementation of variational inference.
