An open retail boundary dataset for South Korea using open data and computer vision technique

Although delineating retail boundaries is important to explore and comprehend the dynamics of the retail sector, it is hard to find studies specifically addressing it in the South Korean context. This study fills this gap by proposing new retail boundaries across South Korea. To achieve this goal, we employed a variety of retailers and building datasets and proposed a unique computer vision-based framework with a deep ensemble voting technique. As a result, we delineated 6,636 distinct retail boundaries that were validated against existing reference retail boundaries. These newly delineated retail boundaries provide valuable insights for researchers, governments, and other relevant stakeholders by enhancing their understanding of retail geography. This dataset can be used as a foundational resource for analyses on topics such as pandemic recovery, retail gentrification, and the resilience of retail spaces in response to e-commerce growth, ultimately contributing to more robust retail sector research in South Korea.

Global Oil & Gas Infrastructure Features Database EDX Spatial Web Map

This submission offers a link to a web mapping application hosted instance of the Global Oil & Gas Features Database (GOGI), via EDX Spatial. This offers users with the ability to visualize, interact, and create maps with data of their choice, as well as download specific attributes or fields of view from the database. This data can also be downloaded as a File Geodatabse from EDX at https://edx.netl.doe.gov/dataset/global-oil-gas-features-database. Access the technical report describing how this database was produced using the following link: https://edx.netl.doe.gov/dataset/development-of-an-open-global-oil-and-gas-infrastructure-inventory-and-geodatabase” This data was developed using a combination of big data computing, custom search and data integration algorithms, and expert driven search to collect open oil and gas data resources worldwide. This approach identified over 380 data sets and integrated more than 4.8 million features into the GOGI database. Acknowledgements: This work was funded under the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Oil and Gas Methane Science Studies. The studies are managed by United Nations Environment in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Scientist, Steven Hamburg of the Environmental Defense Fund. Funding was provided by the Environmental Defense Fund, OGCI Companies (Shell, BP, ENI, Petrobras, Repsol, Total, Equinor, CNPC, Saudi Aramco, Exxon, Oxy, Chevron, Pemex) and CCAC.

Real-time Object Bounding in LiDAR Data With Computer Vision

The Multimodal Measurement System is a roadside radiation measurement testbed used to detect radiation sources in passing vehicles. It works by combining sensor signals from various modalities to produce a thorough scan of the source. A LiDAR sensor is used to measure the dimensions of the vehicle and provide a velocity estimate. However, the current LiDAR setup uses propriety software for which the source code is unavailable and cannot be updated to improve performance. Therefore, it is imperative to the accuracy of the analysis to create a custom vehicle detection that can return the dimensions and velocity of passing vehicles in real time. This new custom detection is written in C++ using the PointCloud Library, which keeps it lightweight. It also utilizes Docker and the Robot Operating System, which allows the versatility of running both on a small computer or the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory cluster while utilizing different models of LiDAR sensors. The custom detection outperforms the current detection model, which increases the accuracy of radiation source detection.

Computing and data transmission for the prediction steering of the Goonhilly satellite-communication aerial

The Goonhilly satellite-communication aerial uses an 85-ft. diameter paraboloidal reflector with waveguide feed at the focus. The aerial is movable in azimuth and elevation, and is provided with independent feedback control systems for these two motions. During a satellite pass, the aerial must be steered so that its axis points continuously, and with high accuracy, in the direction of the satellite. Of the various possible methods of achieving this result, that based on prediction of satellite position has been adopted for the first transatlantic communication experiments using the Telstar and Relay satellites. The process by which orbital predictions originating in the USA are converted to substantially continuous real-time azimuth and elevation pointing instructions at Goonhilly is described herein.

An improved multiple linear regression and data analysis computer program package

NEWRAP, an improved version of a previous multiple linear regression program called RAPIER, CREDUC, and CRSPLT, allows for a complete regression analysis including cross plots of the independent and dependent variables, correlation coefficients, regression coefficients, analysis of variance tables, t-statistics and their probability levels, rejection of independent variables, plots of residuals against the independent and dependent variables, and a canonical reduction of quadratic response functions useful in optimum seeking experimentation. A major improvement over RAPIER is that all regression calculations are done in double precision arithmetic.
