Handbook: Design of automated redundancy verification

The use of the handbook is discussed and the design progress is reviewed. A description of the problem is presented, and examples are given to illustrate the necessity for redundancy verification, along with the types of situations to which it is typically applied. Reusable space vehicles, such as the space shuttle, are recognized as being significant in the development of the automated redundancy verification problem.

Phase change materials handbook

This handbook is intended to provide theory and data needed by the thermal design engineer to bridge the gap between research achievements and actual flight systems, within the limits of the current state of the art of phase change materials (PCM) technology. The relationship between PCM and more conventional thermal control techniques is described and numerous space and terrestrial applications of PCM are discussed. Material properties of the most promising PCMs are provided; the purposes and use of metallic filler materials in PCM composites are presented; and material compatibility considerations relevant to PCM design are included. The engineering considerations of PCM design are described, especially those pertaining to the thermodynamic and heat transfer phenomena peculiar to PCM design. Methods of obtaining data not currently available are presented. The special problems encountered in the space environment are described. Computational tools useful to the designer are discussed. In summary, each aspect of the PCM problem important to the design engineer is covered to the extent allowed by the scope of this effort and the state of the art.

Development of KSC program for investigating and generating field failure rates. Volume 2: Recommended format for reliability handbook for ground support equipment

Field failure rates and confidence factors are presented for 88 identifiable components of the ground support equipment at the John F. Kennedy Space Center. For most of these, supplementary information regarding failure mode and cause is tabulated. Complete reliability assessments are included for three systems, eight subsystems, and nine generic piece-part classifications. Procedures for updating or augmenting the reliability results presented in this handbook are also included.

Handbook on passive thermal control coatings

A handbook of passive thermal control surfaces data pertaining to the heat transfer requirements of spacecraft is presented. Passive temperature control techniques and the selection of control surfaces are analyzed. The space environmental damage mechanisms in passive thermal control surfaces are examined. Data on the coatings for which technical information is available are presented in tabular form. Emphasis was placed on consulting only those references where the experimental simulation of the space environment appeared to be more appropriate.

The 'Silicon Solar Cell Design Handbook.'

The design activities are divided in the handbook into three parts, which are concerned with the light-generated current, the open-circuit voltage, and the fill factor. Each of these parts is further divided into sections, which take into account the individual regions of the device. The basis of the design data for light-generated current and of the design data related to the current-voltage characteristic is discussed together with sample design curves.
