Si optical and electrical properties and energy levels with Mg as donor impurity
Blocked impurity band (BIB) detectors have allowed extension of highly sensitive tunable diode laser (TDL) spectroscopy to over 20 micron spectral region. BIB detectors present low noise equivalent power. Here the apparatus and its components are described and an example of molecular spectra is presented.
We report scanning tunneling spectroscopic studies of the effects of quantum impurities in cuprate superconductors.
In this work, we present numerical simulation results of powder injection in W7-X using the EMC3-EIRENE and DIS codes. First, we model powder injection experiments performed in W7-X with the Probe Mounted Powder Injector. The simulation results qualitatively agree with visible imaging measurements. Secondly, we perform predictive simulations to guide the installation of an Impurity Powder Dropper in W7-X, allowing to choose in between several available non-vertical ports to maximize the amount of powder penetrating into the plasma, as well as the verticality of the port, to minimize sticking of the powders in the in-vessel stainless steel guiding tube. Port AEM41 is selected as the best candidate for IPD installation. The robustness of the simulation results has been verified for different plasma densities, powder materials and sizes, powder friction coefficient and changes in the plasma flow.
The enhanced radiolytic stability of gibbsite (α-Al(OH) 3 ) containing trace nitrate (NO 3 − ) is a phenomenon in nuclear waste management, but its structural origins remain unresolved. Motivated by the detection of minority tetrahedral aluminum (T d ) defects in synthetic gibbsite, we hypothesized that these sites may participate in NO 3 − retention or mediate H 2 suppression. To evaluate this, we combined orthogonal techniques comprised of spatially selective solid-state 27 Al MAS NMR, comparative spectroscopy, and density functional theory (DFT) modeling. Paramagnetic editing and dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) MAS NMR confirm that T d defects are confined to the particle interior. DFT calculations reveal no energetic stabilization of NO 3 − near T d sites. Comparative NMR analysis shows that T d is also present in chloride-bearing gibbsite, which exhibits high radiolytic hydrogen yields. These three independent disqualifications rule out T d as a structural contributor to nitrate-mediated suppression and narrow the scope of defect-driven explanations. The findings redirect mechanistic attention away from coordination defects and toward redox-active impurity pathways, providing a refined foundation for understanding radiation tolerance in Al(OH) 3 .
Beyond quantum confinement, impurity doping of semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) offers a degree of control over their optical and electronic properties, which are of interest for potential applications. Manganese (Mn)-doped CsPbCl 3 NCs, for example, show synergistic effects in the visible, with large enhancements in both blue (exciton) and red (dopant) emission over a narrow range of dopant concentration. Although Mn concentration is the primary parameter, NC size offers an additional degree of control over the number of dopants per NC. Size-resolved CsPbCl 3 NCs prepared in the limit of strong Mn doping highlight the emergence of defective NCs with deviations from anticipated confinement trends. In conclusion, the transition correlates with a redshift and increase in the amplitude of dopant emission, and we discuss these observations in the context of atomistic simulations of Ruddlesden-Popper defects in CsPbCl 3 .
