The employment of weather satellite imagery in an effort to identify and locate the forest-tundra ecotone in Canada

Weather satellite imagery provides the only routinely available orbital imagery depicting the high latitudes. Although resolution is low on this imagery, it is believed that a major natural feature, notably linear in expression, should be mappable on it. The transition zone from forest to tundra, the ecotone, is such a feature. Locational correlation is herein established between a linear signature on the imagery and several ground truth positions of the ecotone in Canada.

Application of the QSDC procedure to the formulation of space shuttle design criteria. Volume 1: Study effort

Criteria to determine the probability of aircraft structural failure were statistically established according to the Quantitative Structural Design Criteria by Statistical Methods, the QSDC procedure. Since an Application Guide is needed to use the QSDC procedure, most of the study was directed to the development of this guide. Most of the considerations followed in the development of the Applications Guide and the Guide itself are reported.

Rocket engine bipropellant valve problems and current efforts

In developing the highly successful bipropellant valves for the Apollo primary propulsion engines, a variety of developmental problems were encountered and resolved. These problems and the new technology that is being pursued to eliminate or minimize these problems on the space shuttle orbital maneuvering engine are discussed. The space shuttle, being a reusable system, has new requirements of the valve. The potential effects of these requirements on valve design and potential solutions are also discussed.
