Modular space station phase B extension program master plan

The project is defined for design, development, fabrication, test, and pre-mission and mission operations of a shuttle-launched modular space station. The project management approach is described in terms of organization, management requirements, work breakdown structure, schedule, time-phased logic, implementation plans, manpower, and funding. The programmatic and technical problems are identified.

NASA plans and programs in support of integrated ATC development

Consideration is given to the following areas in which NASA may contribute to the technology of an advanced national aviation system: (1) quiet, safe, fuel-efficient aircraft; (2) low-cost, reliable, digital avionics; (3) integrated controls technology; (4) human factors in civil and general aviation; (5) aircraft system technology validation and demonstration; and (6) satellite systems technology applications. Such specific projects as the Terminal Configured Vehicle, the Global Positioning System, and the Search and Rescue Satellite System are described.

Department of Defense Precise Time and Time Interval program improvement plan

The United States Naval Observatory is responsible for ensuring uniformity in precise time and time interval operations including measurements, the establishment of overall DOD requirements for time and time interval, and the accomplishment of objectives requiring precise time and time interval with minimum cost. An overview of the objectives, the approach to the problem, the schedule, and a status report, including significant findings relative to organizational relationships, current directives, principal PTTI users, and future requirements as currently identified by the users are presented.

Helicopter human factors programs and plans

Design concepts for pilot interaction with highly computerized systems and particularly the dialog aspects (transfer of information back and forth between the pilot and the system) are examined. Principles for blending the various input-output media are needed. Applied artificial intelligence aspects dealing with input and output grammar, message understanding, and message prioritization are studied.

Guidance and navigation programs and plans

System technology concepts for all weather helicopter operations in both remote and high density areas were examined. The SH-36 was used to support the remote area investigations. The primary emphasis was on the development of advanced navigation concepts to allow rotorcraft to land in remote areas where there may not be a ground based navigational aid. The focus was on the used airborne weather radar, the use of high resolution radar and satellite based navigation concepts. The high density work was conducted using the UH-1H system that allows alternate guidance and navigation algorithms to be tested in flight.

Rca's Planned Test Program to Compare the Performance and Life of Nicd Cells Containing Pellon 2536 in Contrast with Pellon 2505 Separator Material

RCA Astro-Electronics will be characterizing and life-testing two groups of hermetically-sealed aerospace nickel-cadmium cells to determine the effect, if any, of a separator change on cell performance. This test, designed to provide information for a specific low-Earth-orbit satellite application, will also add to the overall data-base for cells with the new separator.

The Space Station Photovoltaic Panels Plasma Interaction Test Program: Test plan and results

The Plasma Interaction Test performed on two space station solar array panels is addressed. This includes a discussion of the test requirements, test plan, experimental set-up, and test results. It was found that parasitic current collection was insignificant (0.3 percent of the solar array delivered power). The measured arcing threshold ranged from -210 to -457 V with respect to the plasma potential. Furthermore, the dynamic response of the panels showed the panel time constant to range between 1 and 5 microsec, and the panel capacitance to be between .01 and .02 microF.
