ATD-2 Perspective: SWIFT Day 2 Introduction
This presentation describes the manner in which the ATD-2 began consuming data from SWIM and gradually built new services to satisfy in its mission. This lessons learned from this work indicate that additional data-rich services will be required in the future. This also led to the development of data pre-processing and mediation services that are now of much interest to the community. The presentation mentions some of the barriers to progress that exist for those seeking to use SWIM flight data, and NASA's desire to share its lessons learned with the aviation community.

Influence of Compositional Complexity on Amorphization Resistance of Swift Heavy Ion Irradiated Titanate Pyrochlores
Compositionally complex oxides have garnered attention recently for their potential technological applications in harsh environments such as thermal barrier coatings and nuclear waste forms. Therefore, their response to extreme conditions, including high temperature and intense irradiation fields, must be thoroughly investigated. Here, the structural evolution of two pyrochlore oxides with comparable cation size ratio, r A /r B , (Yb 0.2 Er 0.2 Dy 0.2 Tb 0.2 Gd 0.2 ) 2 Ti 2 O 7 and Ho 2 Ti 2 O 7 , was evaluated after irradiation with 946 MeV Au ions up to a fluence of 8 × 10 12 ions/cm2 using synchrotron X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The overall radiation response is comparable for both titanate oxides and is dominated by a loss of crystallinity. When compared to a series of conventional titanate pyrochlore compositions, the amorphous track diameter of (Yb 0.2 Er 0.2 Dy 0.2 Tb 0.2 Gd 0.2 ) 2 Ti 2 O 7 is slightly larger than that of Ho2Ti2O7 and more in line with the diameter of the endmember with the maximum A-site cation size (Gd 2 Ti 2 O 7 ). Density functional theory calculations suggest that this behavior may be linked to local lattice distortions and the associated energetics of cation antisite formation. TEM and Raman analyses show that a disordered, crystalline shell surrounds the amorphous ion tracks in (Yb 0.2 Er 0.2 Dy 0.2 Tb 0.2 Gd 0.2 ) 2 Ti 2 O 7 , and the corresponding short-range structure resembles a weberite-type atomic arrangement.
Nion Swift FY2021 phase I Final Technical Report DE-SC0021546
Phase I of the project is an on-going success. The enhanced and extended new application programming interface (API) developed in Phase I is in use at customer sites around the world: Berlin, UK, US, China, France, Austria. The modules developed to demonstrate the new API features are in daily use at these sites for acquiring, processing, and analyzing microscopy data from 4D- and 5D-STEM to single-point spectroscopy at highest resolution.

More than 16,000 publicly owned municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in the U.S. treat a wide range of wastewater (WW) flows ranging from <0.5 to >200 MGD. Municipal WWTPs act as the last barrier before exposure to water-borne diseases and contaminants, thus serving as a critical infrastructure protecting human health and the environment. A recent survey by the American Society of Civil Engineers assigned the U.S.’s WW infrastructure a grade of D+ because of the number of improvements needed for end-of-life infrastructure with operating conditions being over or under design capacities. With increasing population growth and urbanization, the municipal WW sector needs to grow resiliently and sustainably to accommodate increasing sewer flows in the wake of new infrastructure needs and global priorities. In addition, this growth will be affected by rising concerns over constrained resources (e.g., electricity, energy, and water) and regulations. This necessitates molding the WW sector toward sustainability- and resiliency-related planning and innovations to address current and future needs while simultaneously producing profitable by-products.

Absolute flux measurements for swift atoms
While a torsion balance in vacuum can easily measure the momentum transfer from a gas beam impinging on a surface attached to the balance, this measurement depends on the accommodation coefficients of the atoms with the surface and the distribution of the recoil. A torsion balance is described for making absolute flux measurements independent of recoil effects. The torsion balance is a conventional taut suspension wire design and the Young modulus of the wire determines the relationship between the displacement and the applied torque. A compensating magnetic field is applied to maintain zero displacement and provide critical damping. The unique feature is to couple the impinging gas beam to the torsion balance via a Wood's horn, i.e., a thin wall tube with a gradual 90 deg bend. Just as light is trapped in a Wood's horn by specular reflection from the curved surfaces, the gas beam diffuses through the tube. Instead of trapping the beam, the end of the tube is open so that the atoms exit the tube at 90 deg to their original direction. Therefore, all of the forward momentum of the gas beam is transferred to the torsion balance independent of the angle of reflection from the surfaces inside the tube.
