This a presentation for the 2024 Signal Processing Applied to Nonproliferation (SPAN) 2024 workshop. It discusses seismic research conducted at the Redmond Mine as part of the NA-22 STILGAR project.
Exercise facilities have been proven to have numerous physical, mental, and psychological benefits, yet exercise facilities are still inaccessible to a large portion of the population. This study serves to explore the accessibility of fitness centres through geographical, demographic, and temporal lenses through an expansion of the UrbanPop framework that seeks to allocate simulated agents to fitness centres in the Clarksville metro to explore the effects of travel distances on different demographics throughout the week. Findings indicate that senior and retired demographics consistently travel longer distances to exercise in the larger Clarksville area, likely due to tendencies to live further from the center of the metropolitan area. Furthermore, all demographics tend to travel further distances to exercise on the weekends rather than the weekdays, indicating that travel distance can affect likelihood of agents to travel, especially on weekdays when many agents are in the workforce or participating in schooling.

We investigated the discrepancy in observed and modeled Southern Ocean carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) absorption through the lens of the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM), leveraging recent and upcoming E3SM development advances to simulate Lagrangian Biogeochemical-Argo floats. E3SM output, together with observational data streams and output from the evolving CMIP6 archive, are being used to study the spatiotemporal bias in modeled Southern Ocean CO 2 flux.
Radioactive/nuclear (R/N) materials are integral parts of many business sectors such as medicine, industry, and research. In the United States alone, approximately 3 million packages containing R/N materials are shipped annually via highways, rail, air, and water. These materials are utilized in medical diagnostics and treatments, industrial radiography, and scientific research. The secure and efficient transportation of R/N materials is paramount to public safety and national security. Recent incidents involving the loss of R/N materials during transportation highlight significant security and safety concerns. For instance, in December 2024, a package containing four encapsulated Selenium-75 sources was reported lost in transit from the Czech Republic to Madrid, raising alarms about the security of such shipments. Similarly, a Germanium-68 pin source was reported lost in transit in New Jersey in December 2024, underscoring the risks associated with transporting radioactive materials.
The exploitation of radio frequency (RF) signals from Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communication satellites for the purposes of navigation is an active field of research. In this alternative navigation system, navigation observables are passively extracted from existing RF signals. Because these signals are not designed for navigation purposes and often have proprietary signal structures that are unknown to the receiver, they lack much of the information required for navigation systems or such information is unavailable to the receiver.
ICARUS, Imaging Cosmic and Rare Underground Signals, is the far detector of the Short Baseline Neutrino (SBN) Program at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (FNAL). This program was born with the purpose of definitely explaining some anomalies in the field of neutrino oscillation physics, that can suggest the existence of a 4-type of neutrino: the sterile neutrino. It doesn’t interact directly with ordinary matter through the weak interaction, but we can observed the effect of its oscillation. In this chapter I will briefly observe: • the physics goals of the SBN Program; • the role of ICARUS as SBN far detector; • the detection technology.
This presentation was presented at the Aggregation and Grid Security Workshop - held on June 17-18, 2025, at NREL in Golden, Colorado. The goal of the two-day workshop was to address the critical cybersecurity challenges for the future electric grid. This presentation overviews NREL's work in evaluating cybersecurity technology solutions for virtual power plant and aggregator operations.
This report was generated jointly by Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) and Idaho National Laboratory to provide a high-level summary of the current knowledge on the behavior of fission product iodine during reprocessing of used nuclear fuel, as well as provide recommended path forward for research and development activities to fill particular knowledge gaps. The focus of this work is on pyrochemical processing as is applied to light water reactor (LWR) oxide-based used nuclear fuels (UNF), however, some discussion of electrorefiner behavior from metal fuel processing equipment is also included.

CRADA 763: abstract ThermalTracker-3D (TT3D) is a stereo vision thermal imaging system that provides 3D flight information on detected birds, bats, and other flying targets. The system was initially developed for use in the siting and monitoring of offshore wind projects to establish pre-construction and operation collision risk data but can be applied to terrestrial wind energy projects as well as national security monitoring. This technology will reduce monitoring cost, decrease processing time, and provide more accurate data for wind energy developers/operators and regulatory agencies. While the current technology is at a high level of readiness, Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 7, there remain several barriers to commercialization, particularly around ease-of-use, that result in a low Adoption Readiness Level (ARL). The proposed work will advance commercialization readiness by streamlining calibration methods for built systems. This work will:1. 1. develop a software package for factory and dynamic calibration processes 2. test that package with existing prototype TT3D systems, and 3. conduct outreach with industry end-users.
