Small, efficient power supply for xenon lamps

Device, which operates from 28 V dc, has four sections, a preregulator, a dc-to-dc converter, a current regulator, and a high voltage starter. The unique characteristics of the individual sections are described.

Preliminary performance of the Brayton 4.25 inch radial compressor operating in a helium xenon gas mixture

Compressor performance was mapped during the Brayton cycle power system testing. The range of testing included three shaft speeds: the design speed of 36,000 rpm, 10 percent overspeed (39,600 rpm), and 10 percent underspeed (32,400 rpm). A range of compressor inlet temperatures from 60 F to 120 F and discharge pressures from 20 to 45 psia were included. The effects of turbine inlet temperatures (from 1200 F to 1600 F) on the compressor were also studied. The data presented include plots of weight flow, compressor pressure ratio, efficiency, and temperature-rise ratio.

A pulsed xenon megawatt arc plasma source

The exhaust of the source flowing into vacuum was measured by Thomson scattering diagnosis. Mean electron temperatures and densities were found to be 4-8 eV and of order ten to the 13th power cm/3 respectively over the 8 cm exhaust diameter at 30 cm from the source. Large shot to shot variations were noted. After a transient spike passes, these conditions persist during the power time of 125 microsecond. These exhaust conditions are marginal for evaluation of a proposed near resonant charge exchange pumped laser theory.

Theoretical investigation of isotopic anomaly of xenon in carbonaceous chondrites and other terrestrial and extra-terrestrial samples

The composition of Xe released from carbonaceous chondrites between 600 and 1000 C, particularly its isotopic trapped forms, is analyzed. Data show trapped Xe to have the following forms: Xe-124, 126, 130, 131, 132, 134, and 136. Attempts were also made to explain the Xe anomaly by mass fractionation as well as determine the relationship between metoritic trapped Xe and solar Xe.

A pulsed xenon megawatt arc plasma source

The exhaust of the source flowing into vacuum was measured by Thomson scattering diagnosis. Mean electron temperatures and densities were found to be 4-8 eV and on the order of 10 trillion per cu cm respectively, over the 8 cm exhaust diameter at 30 cm from the source. Large shot to shot variations were noted. After a transient spike passes, these conditions persist during the power time of 125 microsec. These exhaust conditions are marginal for evaluation of a proposed near resonant charge exchange pumped laser theory.

Krypton and xenon in lunar fines

Data from grain-size separates, stepwise-heated fractions, and bulk analyses of 20 samples of fines and breccias from five lunar sites are used to define three-isotope and ordinate intercept correlations in an attempt to resolve the lunar heavy rare gas system in a statistically valid approach. Tables of concentrations and isotope compositions are given.
