Depleted uranium hexafluoride (UF 6 ), a stockpiled byproduct of the nuclear fuel cycle, reacts readily with atmospheric humidity, but the gas-phase reaction mechanism and associated chemical kinetics are poorly understood. During the performance period we undertook development of a state-of-the-art ab initio gas-phase chemical kinetics simulation workflow to model the hydrolysis of uranium hexafluroride (UF 6 ). In doing so, we addressed several outstanding issues in the theoretical treatment of uranium-containing systems. At the outset it was unclear how to generate accurate estimates of kinetic and thermodynamic data for U-containing chemical reactions. Generation of such data has been made routine. Prior to our work, the literature associated with UF 6 hydrolysis were disparate and inaccurate. This body of work provides a modern and comprehensive theoretical assessment of the reaction mechanism, molecular clustering towards deposition, and chemical kinetics. New methodological implementations and software integrations resulting from this work are also highlighted. As much as possible, our predictions were validated against experimental data including particle morphologies, vibrational spectroscopy, atomization enthalpies, and kinetic rate constants. Nevertheless, we were unable to reconcile kinetic measurements with high-accuracy simulations.
Vacancy-mediated diffusion barriers in 316 stainless steel have been systematically calculated using density functional theory to provide essential parameters for mesoscale microstructure evolution models. A statistical sampling approach employing 210 nudged elastic band calculations across multiple special quasi-random structures captures the effects of local chemical environments in this concentrated alloy. The computational methodology addresses challenges specific to chemically disordered systems, including proper magnetic treatment throughout multi-step calculations and validation against experimental structural properties. The calculated activation barriers reveal clear species-dependent diffusion behavior with the hierarchy Ni >> Fe ˜ Cr >> Mo. Nickel exhibits the highest barriers (0.74–1.31 eV, mean 1.045 eV), confirming its role as the slowest-diffusing major component. Iron and chromium show similar moderate barriers averaging 0.587 eV and 0.522 eV, respectively. Remarkably, molybdenum demonstrates exceptionally low barriers (0.12–0.28 eV, mean 0.194 eV), suggesting much higher mobility than previously recognized and potentially significant implications for precipitation kinetics and microstructure evolution. The barrier ranges remain consistent across different 316 SS compositions, supporting parameter transferability for modeling applications. The overall mean barrier of 0.64 eV provides a practical approximation for phase field simulations, while species-specific values enable detailed treatments of diffusion-controlled processes. This systematic approach establishes a validated framework for generating diffusion parameters in other concentrated alloys where experimental data are limited, while providing the first systematic set of species-specific barriers for predictive modeling of 316 stainless steel microstructure evolution.

Winograd's algorithm for computing the discrete Fourier transform is extended considerably for certain large transform lengths. This is accomplished by performing the cyclic convolution, required by Winograd's method, by a fast transform over certain complex integer fields. This algorithm requires fewer multiplications than either the standard fast Fourier transform or Winograd's more conventional algorithms.
Systems and Processes Engineering Corporation (SPEC) has developed an innovative array processor architecture for computing Fourier transforms and other commonly used signal processing algorithms. This architecture is designed to extract the highest possible array performance from state-of-the-art GaAs technology. SPEC's architectural design includes a high performance RISC processor implemented in GaAs, along with a Floating Point Coprocessor and a unique Array Communications Coprocessor, also implemented in GaAs technology. Together, these data processors represent the latest in technology, both from an architectural and implementation viewpoint. SPEC has examined numerous algorithms and parallel processing architectures to determine the optimum array processor architecture. SPEC has developed an array processor architecture with integral communications ability to provide maximum node connectivity. The Array Communications Coprocessor embeds communications operations directly in the core of the processor architecture. A Floating Point Coprocessor architecture has been defined that utilizes Bit-Serial arithmetic units, operating at very high frequency, to perform floating point operations. These Bit-Serial devices reduce the device integration level and complexity to a level compatible with state-of-the-art GaAs device technology.
The vibrational frequencies of MO2 are computed at many levels of theory, including HF, B3LYP, BP86, CASSCF, MP2, and CCSD(T). The computed results are compared with the available experimental results. Most of the methods fail for at least one state of the systems considered. The accuracy of the results and the origin of the observed failures are discussed. The B3LYP bond energies are compared with traditional methods for a variety of systems, ranging from FeCOn+ to SiCln and its positive ions. The cases where B3LYP differs from the traditional methods are discussed.
All-electron B3LYP harmonic frequencies of Ge2H5 and Ge2H6 are computed for several choices of grid and using both the Becke and the Stratmann, Scuseria, and Frisch atomic partition functions (weight scheme). For large grids, the results are independent of the weighting scheme. The lowest frequency mode is much more stable with respect to the number of grid points when the Stratmann, Scuseria, and Frisch weights are used.

In this paper an in-depth analysis on the performance of the Fourier analysis in estimating the first spectral moment of Doppler spectra of rain signals from a spaceborne radar is presented.
According to various embodiments, a method is provided for determining aberration data for an optical system. The method comprises collecting a data signal, and generating a pre-transformation algorithm. The data is pre-transformed by multiplying the data with the pre-transformation algorithm. A discrete Fourier transform of the pre-transformed data is performed in an iterative loop. The method further comprises back-transforming the data to generate aberration data.
Molecular quantum communications (the term here being used to define the transfer of information using the movement of quantum states between molecules or between molecules and a sensing environment that can be queried) can be achieved with a wide range of phenomena. Although there are excellent materials databases such as the Open Quantum Materials Database (http://oqmd.org/analysis/gclp/) and the Materials Project (https://materialsproject.org/), there is no centralized database of materials correlated to their quantum communications possibilities.
