Hybrid nonlinear optical filter exhibiting different transmission properties in opposite paths applied to CRT display
Fabrication method for cathode ray tubes uses low-cost siloxane resin formulations. The resins contain sufficient methyl or phenyl groups for solubility in organic solvents. After vaporization and baking, the polymerized material is stable under vacuum and under temperatures required for tube fabrication.

Methods for increasing the (optical density span) of radiographs were evaluated. In one method, fluorescent dye was deposited in the tracks of the radiograph. The radiograph was then examined under ultraviolet light. The second method was a crossed Polaroid filter technique. The radiograph was placed between the filters and then illuminated with a diffuse white-light source. An increase in the optical density span from .10 to .37 was obtained with the dye method. With the Polaroid method, the increase obtained was from .10 to 2.4.

In one method, fluorescent dye is deposited into tracks of radiograph and viewed under ultraviolet light. In second method, track-etch radiograph is placed between crossed polaroid filters, exposed to diffused light and resulting image is projected onto photographic film.
The distribution of subtle but definite color variations on the lunar surface is analyzed using Apollo 16 photographs. Results show the strongest color variations and most distinct boundaries are concentrated in the northwest quadrant of the moon, where major boundaries correspond with distal fronts of a complex and prominent series of lava flows.

The method of transfer functions is discussed that enable the elimination of atmospheric effects from spectral photometric data measured from spacecraft. Soyuz 7, 9 and Salyut spacecraft data were used. The results made it possible to estimate the variations in the transfer functions in the visible spectral region depending on the albedo of the underlying surface both for the uniform surfaces and near the boundary between two uniform underlying surfaces.

The purpose of the scanning electron microscopy study was to review the failure history of existing integrated circuit technologies to identify predominant failure mechanisms, and to evaluate the feasibility of their detection using SEM application techniques. The study investigated the effects of E-beam irradiation damage and contamination deposition rates; developed the necessary methods for applying the techniques to the detection of latent defects and weaknesses in integrated circuits; and made recommendations for applying the techniques.

The author has identified the following significant results. Digital analysis of LANDSAT CCT's indicated that two discrete spectral background zones occurred among the five soil zone. K-CLASS classification of corn revealed that accuracy increased when two background zones were used, compared to the classification of corn stratified by five soil zones. Selectively varying film type developer and development time produces higher contract in reprocessed imagery. Interpretation of rangeland and cropped land data from 1968 aerial photography and 1976 LANDSAT imagery indicated losses in rangeland habitat. Thermal imagery was useful in locating potential sources of sub-surface water and geothermal energy, estimating evapotranspiration, and inventorying the land.
