Numerical simulation of RHIC polarized proton run 17 spin flipper experiments

RHIC nine-magnet spin flipper has been operated successfully during RHIC polarized proton Run 17, with 97% spin flip efficiency achieved. The results show the importance of mirror resonance removal, small spin tune spread, and proper spin flipper driving tune sweep speed. Detailed spin tracking simulations, based on a Lorentz force and Thomas-BMT differential equation numerical solver code for accuracy, have been carried out to understand the experimental results. Agreement within measurement accuracy is obtained at injection energy, 23.8 GeV. It is not as tight at 255 GeV, reasons for that are exposed. These measurements and numerical studies allow to determine the sensitivity of spin-flip efficiency to the dispersion slopes at the two Siberian snakes and to the ac dipole frequency sweep speed. They also provide guidance for future developments at BNL’s electron-ion collider. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Hard jet substructure in a multistage approach

We present predictions and postdictions for a wide variety of hard jet-substructure observables using a multistage model within the framework. The details of the multistage model and the various parameter choices are described in []. A novel feature of this model is the presence of two stages of jet modification: a high-virtuality phase [modeled using the modular all twist transverse-scattering elastic-drag and radiation model ()], where modified coherence effects diminish medium-induced radiation, and a lower virtuality phase [modeled using the linear Boltzmann transport model ()], where parton splits are fully resolved by the medium as they endure multiple scattering induced energy loss. Energy-loss calculations are carried out on event-by-event viscous fluid dynamic backgrounds constrained by experimental data. The uniform and consistent descriptions of multiple experimental observables demonstrate the essential role of modified coherence effects and the multistage modeling of jet evolution. Using the best choice of parameters from [], and with no further tuning, we present calculations for the medium modified jet fragmentation function, the groomed jet momentum fraction z g and angular separation r g distributions, as well as the nuclear modification factor of groomed jets. These calculations provide accurate descriptions of published data from experiments at the Large Hadron Collider. Furthermore, we provide predictions from the multistage model for future measurements at the BNL Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Prospects for exotic h → 4 τ decays in single and di-Higgs boson production at the LHC and future hadron colliders

We study the prospects for observing exotic decays of the Standard Model Higgs boson h into light beyond the Standard Model scalars a with mass m a ≲ m h / 2 in the single Higgs and Higgs pair production channels at the high luminosity run of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). Discovery prospects for single Higgs production in the gluon-gluon fusion and vector boson fusion modes with the Higgs boson decaying via the exotic mode h → a a → 4 τ are analyzed at the HL-LHC. The projected sensitivity for exotic Higgs decays in the nonresonant Higgs pair production channel p p → h h → ( h → b b ¯ ) ( h → a a → 4 τ ) → 2 b 4 τ at the HL-LHC and a future s = 100 TeV hadron collider (FCC-hh) are also estimated. Furthermore, we study HL-LHC’s potential reach for the Higgs-strahlung process in the 2 b 4 τ channel, taking into account the contamination from nonresonant Higgs pair production. Finally, the potential reach for resonant Higgs pair production in the 2 b 4 τ channel at the HL-LHC is also explored for several choices of { m H , m a } . Our studies suggest that significant improvements over existing bounds are achievable in several production channels, motivating new dedicated searches for h → a a → 4 τ at the HL-LHC and future colliders. Top Yukawa coupling measurement at the muon collider

We have presented a detailed study about the prospects for the measurement of the top Yukawa coupling in the vector boson fusion production of a top quark pair at high energy muon colliders. By employing the effective W approximation and the high energy limit for the helicity amplitudes of the subprocess W + W − → t t ¯ , we have derived the energy scaling of the statistical signal significance in the presence of the anomalous couplings by focusing on the interference term only. The sensitivity on the top Yukawa coupling decreases as the bin energy increases. For the anomalous triple gauge boson couplings and the gauge-boson-fermion couplings with E 2 energy growing behavior, the signal significance has mild increase at the beginning and starts to decrease for s ^ t t ¯ ∼ 0.2 s μ + μ − . The 95% CL on the anomalous top Yukawa coupling is projected to be 5.6% (1.7%) at a 10 (30) TeV muon collider, which is comparable to the sensitivity of 2% at the 100 TeV collider. Custodial symmetry breaking and Higgs boson signatures at the LHC

We discuss the simplest model that predicts a tree-level modification of the ρ parameter from a shift in the W -mass without changing the prediction for the Z mass. This model predicts a new neutral Higgs and two charged Higgses, with very similar masses and suppressed couplings to the Standard Model fermions. We discuss the decay properties of these new scalar bosons, and the main signatures at the Large Hadron Collider. Comparing these signatures for the first time to the latest measurements, we show that while masses around 200 GeV are excluded for some scenarios, over a wide range of model parameter space the new bosons can have a mass close to the electroweak scale without violating existing limits from experimental searches or destroying the agreement with measurements. We investigate the scenario where the new neutral Higgs is fermiophobic and has a large branching ratio into W gauge bosons and/or photons, and show that this could lead to a signal in the diphoton mass spectrum at low Higgs masses. We discuss the different signatures that can motivate new measurements and searches at the Large Hadron Collider. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Three-point energy correlators in hadronic Higgs boson decays

We present the analytic calculation of the leading-order three-point energy correlator (EEEC) in hadronic Higgs decays, including both the gluon-initiated channel H → g g + X and quark-initiated channel H → q q ¯ + X . The phase-space integration is evaluated directly using Mandelstam variables s i j = ( p i + p j ) 2 , and the appearing square roots can be rationalized by either conformal ratios or celestial coordinate variables. Throughout the calculation, we observe the same transcendental function space as in N = 4 super–Yang-Mills theory and e + e − → hadrons . Different infrared limits are also explored using the full analytic result, offering the fixed-order data for EEEC factorization and resummation. Given its nontrivial shape dependence, the EEEC presents an excellent opportunity to explore the dynamics of gluon jets originating from the H → g g decay channel at future lepton colliders. Accessing the gravitational form factors of the nucleon and nuclei through a massive graviton

In contrast to the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon and nuclei that have been extensively studied in electron scattering, there is no known way to directly measure the gravitational form factors (GFFs), the off-forward hadronic matrix element of the QCD energy-momentum tensor. I suggest exploring the possibility to access the GFFs of the proton and nuclei in conjunction with massive graviton searches at future TeV-scale lepton-ion colliders. Electroweak scattering at the muon shot

It has long been recognized that the scattering of electroweak particles at very high energies is dominated by vector boson fusion, which probes the origin of electroweak symmetry breaking and offers a unique window into the ultraviolet regime of the Standard Model (SM). Previous studies assume SM-like couplings and rely on the effective W approximation (or electroweak parton distribution), whose validity is well established within the SM but not yet studied in the presence of anomalous Higgs couplings. In this work, we critically examine the electroweak production of two Higgs bosons in the presence of anomalous V V h and V V h h couplings. We compute the corresponding helicity amplitudes and compare the cross section results in the effective W approximation with the full fixed-order calculation. In particular, we identify two distinct classes of anomalous Higgs couplings, whose effects are not captured by vector boson fusion and effective W approximation. Such very-high-energy electroweak scatterings can be probed at the muon shot, a multi-TeV muon collider upon which we base our study, although similar considerations apply to other high-energy colliders. Final state radiation from high and ultrahigh energy neutrino interactions

Charged leptons produced by high-energy and ultrahigh-energy neutrinos have a substantial probability of emitting prompt internal bremsstrahlung ν ℓ + N → ℓ + X + γ . This can have important consequences for neutrino detection. We discuss observable consequences at high- and ultrahigh-energy neutrino telescopes and the Large Hadron Collider’s (LHC’s) Forward Physics Facility. Logarithmic enhancements can be substantial (e.g., ∼ 20 % ) when either the charged lepton’s energy or the rest of the cascade is measured. We comment on final state radiation’s impacts on measuring the inelasticity distribution, ν / ν ¯ flux ratio, throughgoing muons, and double-bang signatures for high-energy neutrino observation. Furthermore, for ultrahigh-energy neutrino observation, we find that final state radiation increases the overall detectable energy by as much as 20%, affects flavor measurements, and decreases the energy of both Earth-emergent tau leptons and regenerated tau neutrinos. Many of these have significant impacts on measuring neutrino fluxes and spectra. Finally, for the LHC’s Forward Physics Facility, we find that final state radiation will impact future extractions of strange quark parton distribution functions. Final state radiation should be included in future analyses at neutrino telescopes and the Forward Physics Facility. Published by the American Physical Society 2025

Back-to-Back Inclusive Dijets in Deep Inelastic Scattering at Small x : Complete NLO Results and Predictions

We compute the back-to-back dijet cross section in deep inelastic scattering at small x to next-to-leading order (NLO) in the color glass condensate effective field theory. Our result can be factorized into a convolution of the Weizsäcker-Williams gluon transverse-momentum-dependent distribution function (WW gluon TMD) with a universal soft factor and an NLO coefficient function. The soft factor includes both double and single logarithms in the ratio of the relative transverse momentum P ⊥ of the dijet pair to the dijet momentum imbalance q ⊥ ; its renormalization group (RG) evolution is resummed into the Sudakov factor. Likewise, the WW TMD obeys a nonlinear RG equation in x that is kinematically constrained to satisfy both the lifetime and rapidity ordering of the projectile. Exact analytical expressions are obtained for the NLO coefficient function of transversely and longitudinally polarized photons. Our results allow for the first quantitative separation of the dynamics of Sudakov suppression from that of gluon saturation. They can be extended to other final states and provide a framework for precision tests of novel QCD many-body dynamics at the Electron-Ion Collider. Published by the American Physical Society 2024

Evidence of h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) η Decay and Search for h b ( 1 P , 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 with the Belle Detector

We report the first evidence for the h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) η transition with a significance of 3.5 standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be B [ h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) η ] = ( 7.1 − 3.2 + 3.7 ± 0.8 ) × 10 − 3 , which is noticeably smaller than expected. We also set upper limits on π 0 transitions of B [ h b ( 2 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 ] < 1.8 × 10 − 3 , and B [ h b ( 1 P ) → ϒ ( 1 S ) π 0 ] < 1.8 × 10 − 3 , at the 90% confidence level. These results are obtained with a 131.4 fb − 1 data sample collected near the ϒ ( 5 S ) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e + e − collider. ATLAS toward the High Luminosity era: challenges on electronic systems

To maximize the physics reach, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) plans to increase its instantaneous luminosity to $7.5×10^{34} cm^{-2} s^{-1}$ and deliver $3 - 4 ab^{-1}$ of data at a center-of-mass energy of 14 TeV. To profit from this high-luminosity LHC operation with a pile-up up to 200 inelastic collisions per bunch crossing, performance of the ATLAS detector needs to be maintained and in many systems, improved. The upgraded detector will have an unprecedented output data rate of up to 200 TB/s. Real-time processing of this large data volume in a short time period is extremely challenging. New sets of both front-end and back-end electronics are required for all sub-detectors. The large number of detector channels, huge volumes of input and output data, short time available to process and transmit data, harsh radiation environment, and the need of low power consumption all impose great challenges on the designs of electronic systems.

HELEN: A Linear Collider Based On Advanced SRF Technology

This paper discusses recently proposed Higgs Energy LEptoN (HELEN) $e+e-$ linear collider based on advances in superconducting radio frequency technology. The collider offers cost and AC power savings, smaller footprint (relative to the ILC), and could be built at Fermilab with an interaction region within the site boundaries. After the initial physics run at 250 GeV, the collider could be upgraded either to higher luminosity or to higher (up to 500 GeV) energies.

Anatomy of $tthh$ physics at the HL-LHC

The t t h h production at colliders contains rich information on the nature of the Higgs boson. In this article, we systematically studied its physics at the high-luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), using exclusive channels with multiple ( ≥ 5 ) b -jets and one lepton ( 5 b 1 ℓ ), multiple ( ≥ 5 ) b -jets and opposite-sign dilepton ( 5 b 2 ℓ ), same-sign dilepton ( SS 2 ℓ ), multiple leptons (multi- ℓ ), and ditau resonance ( τ τ ). The scenarios analyzed include: (1) the t t h h production in Standard Model; (2) the t t h h production mediated by anomalous cubic Higgs self-coupling and t t h h contact interaction; (3) heavy Higgs ( H ) production with t t H → t t h h ; and (4) pair production of fermionic top partners ( T ) with T T → t t h h . To address the complication of event topologies and the mess of combinatorial backgrounds, a tool of boosted-decision-tree was applied in the analyses. The 5 b 1 ℓ and SS 2 ℓ analyses define the two most promising channels. For the nonresonant t t h h production, a combination of these exclusive analyses allows for its measurement in the SM with a statistical significance ~ 0.9 σ (with S / B > 1 % ), and may partially break the sensitivity degeneracy with respect to a varying cubic Higgs self-coupling, a difficulty usually thought to exist in gluon fusion di-Higgs analysis at HL-LHC. These sensitivities were also projected to future hadron colliders at 27 TeV and 100 TeV. For the resonant t t h h productions, the heavy Higgs boson in type II two-Higgs-doublet-model could be efficiently searched for between the mass thresholds 2 m h < m H < 2 m t and even beyond that, for relatively small tan β (vacuum alignment), while the fermionic top partners in composite Higgs models could be probed up to ~ 1.5 TeV and ~ 1.7 TeV , for Br ( T → t h ) = 25 % and 50%, respectively.

Photon-odderon interference in exclusive χ c charmonium production at the Electron-Ion Collider

Exclusive C = + 1 scalar, axial-vector, and tensor quarkonium production in high-energy electron-proton scattering requires a C -odd t -channel exchange of a photon or a three-gluon ladder. We derive the expressions for the corresponding amplitudes. The relative phase of the photon vs three-gluon exchange amplitudes is determined by the sign of the light-front matrix element of the eikonal color current operator d a b c J + a J + b J + c at moderate x , and is not affected by small- x QCD evolution. Model calculations predict constructive interference, which is particularly strong for momentum transfer | t | ∼ 1 GeV 2 where the cross section for χ c J production exceeds that for pure photon exchange by up to a factor of 4. Exclusive χ c J electroproduction at the high luminosity Electron-Ion Collider occurs with well measurable rates and measurements of these processes should find evidence for the perturbative odderon exchange. We also compute the total electroproduction cross section as a function of energy and provide first estimates of the number of χ c J events per month at the Electron-Ion Collider design luminosity. Essay: A Path for the Construction of a Muon Collider

Muons are elementary particles and provide cleaner collision events that can explore higher energies compared to composite particles like protons. Muons are also far heavier than their electron cousins, meaning that they emit less synchrotron radiation that effectively limits the energies of circular electron-positron colliders. These characteristics open up the possibility for a muon collider to surpass the direct energy reach of the Large Hadron Collider while achieving unprecedented precision measurements of standard model processes. In this Essay, after briefly summarizing the progress achieved so far, I identify important missing research and development steps and envision a compelling plan to bring a muon collider to reality in the next two decades. A muon collider could allow for the exploration of physics that is not available with current technologies. For example, it may provide a way to study the Higgs boson directly or probe new particles, including those related to dark matter or other phenomena beyond the standard model. . Feebly-interacting particles: FIPs 2020 workshop report

With the establishment and maturation of the experimental programs searching for new physics with sizeable couplings at the LHC, there is an increasing interest in the broader particle and astrophysics community for exploring the physics of light and feebly-interacting particles as a paradigm complementary to a New Physics sector at the TeV scale and beyond. FIPs 2020 has been the first workshop fully dedicated to the physics of feebly-interacting particles and was held virtually from 31 August to 4 September 2020. The workshop has gathered together experts from collider, beam dump, fixed target experiments, as well as from astrophysics, axions/ALPs searches, current/future neutrino experiments, and dark matter direct detection communities to discuss progress in experimental searches and underlying theory models for FIPs physics, and to enhance the cross-fertilisation across different fields. FIPs 2020 has been complemented by the topical workshop “Physics Beyond Colliders meets theory”, held at CERN from 7 June to 9 June 2020. This document presents the summary of the talks presented at the workshops and the outcome of the subsequent discussions held immediately after. It aims to provide a clear picture of this blooming field and proposes a few recommendations for the next round of experimental results.

2025 EIC-France Workshop: Physics Highlights and Perspectives

This document presents a synthesis of the theory contributions and discussions from the 2nd EIC-France Workshop, held at IJCLab (Orsay) on 1-3 December 2025. The workshop brought together members of the French hadron-physics community to review recent theoretical developments relevant to the future Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) and to coordinate national efforts in preparation for its early physics program. The report first summarizes the collider's initial running conditions and luminosity performance, as outlined in the EIC Early Science Matrix. It then provides concise overviews of the theoretical presentations on inclusive, semi-inclusive, exclusive, heavy-flavor, and small-x physics. Based on these discussions, two measurements emerged as especially well suited for early EIC operation and strongly aligned with areas of established French expertise: inclusive diffraction and inclusive quarkonium production. These channels offer clean signatures, robust theoretical interpretability, and direct sensitivity to fundamental QCD phenomena such as gluon saturation, heavy-quark dynamics, and the small-x structure of hadrons and nuclei. In addition, the workshop identified longer-term physics opportunities that will benefit from the full capabilities of the EIC after its ramp-up phase. These include accessing the three-dimensional structure of the pion through the Sullivan process and a broader program of exclusive three-body final states, both of which represent high-impact avenues for exploring hadronic structure and non-perturbative QCD. Together, the elements summarized in this report provide a coherent overview of the strategic priorities and scientific ambitions shaping the French community's contribution to the EIC physics program.
