All the basic areas of anthropometry and its applications to the design of clothing, equipment, and workspaces for manned space flight are presented.
Volume 2 contains data resulting from surveys of 61 military and civilian populations of both sexes from the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Some 295 measured variables are defined and illustrated.
Volume 3 is an annotated bibliography covering a broad spectrum of topics relevant to applied physical anthropology with emphasis on anthropometry and its applications in sizing and design.
Volume 7 of the Satellite Power Systems (SPS) Concept Definition Study final report summarizes the basic requirements used as a guide to systems analysis and is a basis for the selection of candidate SPS point design(s). Initially, these collected data reflected the level of definition resulting from the evaluation of a broad spectrum of SPS concepts. As the various concepts matured these requirements were updated to reflect the requirements identified for the projected satellite system/subsystem point design(s). The identified subsystem/systems requirements are defined, and where appropriate, recommendations for alternate approaches which may represent improved design features are presented. A more detailed discussion of the selected point design(s) will be found in Volume 2 of this report.
The interrelations between the infrastructure and the forecast future market are discussed. Also, using forecasts of market growth for a base, future aircraft and air service concepts were evaluated.
The functions performed by the systems management (SM) application software are described along with the design employed to accomplish these functions. The operational sequences (OPS) control segments and the cyclic processes they control are defined. The SM specialist function control (SPEC) segments and the display controlled 'on-demand' processes that are invoked by either an OPS or SPEC control segment as a direct result of an item entry to a display are included. Each processing element in the SM application is described including an input/output table and a structured control flow diagram. The flow through the module and other information pertinent to that process and its interfaces to other processes are included.
The requirements for several configurations of flight articles are presented. These requirements provide the basis to design manned remote work station development test articles and establish tests and simulation objectives for the resolution of development issues. Mission system and subsystem requirements for four MRWS configurations included: open cherry picker; closed cherry picker; crane turret; and free flyer.
The information necessary to estimate the thermal environment in which proposed instruments will be expected to operate is presented in curves and tables which indicate the magnitude of the environmental fluxes which can be expected for various space transportation system missions.
The identified subsystem/systems requirements are defined for the solar power satellites. Recommendations for alternate approaches which may represent improved design features are presented.
Ultrasonic therapy for certain diseases is discussed. Success is reported in the treatment of chronic tonsilitis, sinusitis, and Meniere's disease.
The etiology, pathogenesis, clinical practice, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with vestibular crises is discussed. Classifications for vestibular disorders are given. Information on the frequency of vestibular crises is given.
A description of each of the satellites is given and a brief summary of each user experiment is presented. A Cross Index of User Experiments sorted by various parameters and a listing of keywords versus Experiment Number are presented.
The experiments are grouped by type of service offered; for example, education, health services, and data transmission. A bibliography of reports by accession number and by author are also presented. A listing of keywords versus report number is presented.
Questionnaires received from the satellite users are presented. Questionnaires were sent to users in 1976, 1977 and 1979. The forms reflect user viewpoints of the systems.
