Electrometer preamplifier has drift correction feedback

Negative feedback circuit corrects output drift in an electrometer. The negative feedback is used in the no signal state to maintain the output level at zero reference. Drift voltage storage in the signal on state is also used to provide a drift-free readout.

Preregulator feedback circuit utilizes Light Actuated Switch

Preregulator feedback circuit employing a Light Actuated Switch /LAS/ provides a simple and efficient feedback device in a power supply preregulator which maintains dc isolation between input and output grounds. The LAS consists of a diode PN junction infrared source close to, but electrically isolated from, a photodetector.

Optimal feedback control for nonlinear control moment gyro systems

A study was made, leading to development and analysis of a technique allowing the control moment gyro (CMG) momentum vectors to avoid adverse orientations and thus to provide optimal control for the Apollo Telescope Mount. The technique was formulated in terms of a feedback scheme using a check factor, K, formed as the product of the dot products of the three CMG momentum unit vectors. The parameter K approaches unity for all adverse orientations and was used to initiate a single correction maneuver to rotate the CMG momenta away from a pending adverse orientation and to reduce K to an acceptable value. A digital computer program for ATM simulations was modified to incorporate this correction maneuver and performance was evaluated in simulated cases. Antiparallelism was used as the primary example for the evaluation of the feedback optimization technique.

Pole placement with constant gain output feedback

Given a linear time invariant multivariable system with m inputs and p outputs, it was shown that p closed loop poles of the system can be preassigned arbitrarily using constant gain output feedback provided (A circumflex, B circumflex) is controllable. These data show that if (A circumflex, B circumflex, C circumflex) is controllable and observable, and Rank B circumflex = m, Rank C circumflex = p, then max (m,p) poles of the system can be assigned arbitarily using constant gain output feedback. Further, it is shown that in some cases more than max (m,p) poles can be arbitrarily assigned. A least square design technique is outlined to approximate the desired pole locations when it is not possible to place all the poles.

Design of minimax output feedback controller for system with parameter uncertainty

The problem of controlling a time-invariant system with parameter uncertainty is considered with incomplete state feedback. The controller is designed by minimaximizing a quadratic performance criterion and a sensitivity (or loss) criterion, involving the state of the system, the control, and the uncertainty vector. The resulting optimal controller is linear and optimal feedback gain matrix must satisfy a set of nonlinear algebraic equations. some algorithms for algebraic minimax problems are presented.

Optimal limited state variable feedback controllers for linear systems.

Optimized static and dynamic linear system compensator designs with a priori fixed dimensions are discussed. Expressions are derived to determine the parameters of these designs, including the fixed-gain output feedback, the time-varying output feedback, and time-invariant compensation. A relevant deterministic off-line optimization problem is formulated, and the properties of a solution to the problem are analyzed. A unified design philosophy for limited state-variable control problems of essentially deterministic systems is developed. The philosophy incorporates design constraints, a careful selection of performance criteria, and interpretation of the results.

Stabilization of linear multivariable systems by output feedback.

A method is developed for improving the stability of linear multivariable systems using output feedback. The technique, which utilizes a gradient approach, has been mechanized in a digital computer program. Illustrative results are given for a seven-state two-feedback model of the Saturn V booster.

Feedback in sequential machine realizations.

A method is described for determining the realizability of a sequential machine with trigger or set-reset flip-flop memory elements when the feedback of the machine is given by a Boolean function. Feedbacks in several types of sequential machines with different memory elements are compared, showing the memory specifications allowing the realization of such machines.

Stability conditions derived from spectral theory - Discrete systems with periodic feedback.

By use of the spectral theory of linear operators, necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the stability of a class of discrete time feedback systems with a periodically time-varying feedback gain. These conditions involve a Nyquist plot for an equivalent time-invariant system which may be determined from the frequency response function of the system under consideration. In the special case of a scalar-input scalar-output system, these conditions may be given in a particularly simple form.

Energy-ratio function for center-of-gravity feedback.

An energy-ratio function is introduced which greatly facilitates analysis and signal design for center-of-gravity feedback communication schemes. Using this function, we show that center-of-gravity feedback using regular-simplex signals achieves Shannon's lower bound on average energy per transmission for zero error probability if M, the number of messages, is 3, 4, or 5 and there is no constraint on system bandwidth.

L2-stability of distributed feedback systems: Singular perturbation

A continuous time, single input-single output, linear, time-invariant, distributed feedback system F sup epsilon, containing a small delay of length epsilon in the loop, is considered. Conditions are given under which L2-stability and L2-instability of this feedback system can be deduced from those of the reduced model obtained by neglecting the delay. The two system models associated with F sup epsilon are the low-frequency model F and the high frequency model F. The condition for neglecting the small delay is the L2-stability of the family of high-frequency models, where epsilon or = 0 is sufficiently small. A lemma and a theorem are given. The lemma gives sharp Nyquist-type conditions for the L2-stability and L2-instability of the family of high frequency models for sufficiently small epsilon or = 0, while the Theorem gives explicit conditions under which the small delay may or may not be neglected.

ASDTIC - A feedback control innovation.

The ASDTIC (analog signal to discrete time interval converter) control subsystem provides precise output control of high performance aerospace power supplies. The key to ASDTIC operation is that it stably controls output by sensing output energy change as well as output magnitude. The ASDTIC control subsystem and control module were developed to improve power supply performance during static and dynamic input voltage and output load variations, to reduce output voltage or current regulation due to component variations or aging, to maintain a stable feedback control with variations in the loop gain or loop time constants, and to standardize the feedback control subsystem for power conditioning equipment.

Linear time-invariant feedback systems with multiple inputs and multiple outputs are examined. It is demonstrated that no loss of generality takes place considering the feedback to be unity. Necessary and sufficient conditions are derived for the closed-loop impulse response to be stable in a prescribed sense.
