A Strengthened Teleconnection of the Quasi‐Biennial Oscillation and Tropical Easterly Jet in the Past Decades in E3SMv1

The Energy Exascale Earth System Model version 1 (E3SMv1) is a new global model that can generate a weakened tropical easterly jet (TEJ) during the easterly quasi-biennial oscillation (EQBO) and a strengthened TEJ during the westerly QBO (WQBO), which is referred to as the QBO-TEJ teleconnection. Although the longitudinal structure of the QBO-TEJ teleconnection is different between reanalysis and simulations, we hypothesize that simulations can still provide insights into the observed long-term changes in the QBO-TEJ teleconnection. The Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project historical simulations (AMIP-historical) generate a strengthened trend in the correlation between the QBO and TEJ indices in the period of 1950–2014 as in reanalysis. The comparison of the AMIP-historical and the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project coupled historical simulations (coupled-historical) shows that the warming of the Indian Ocean has played a vital role in the strengthened QBO-TEJ teleconnection over the past six decades.

NWB Sensors Infrared Cloud Imager Data Products from SGP

NWB Sensors is a company which has developed a commercially available Infrared Cloud Imager (ICI). For more information, consult the company's webpage, https://www.nwbsensors.com/infrared-cloud-imager. To validate the radiometric accuracy of the ICI, NWB Sensors deployed it to the ARM SGP User Facility in 2023. The primary motivation of this deployment was to perform an intercomparison between the ICI and the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI). The AERI spectral radiance data product can be integrated across the response function of the ICI and directly compared to the zenith radiance observed by the ICI. In addition, the ICI uses proprietary models of the downwelling clear-sky radiance in its cloud processing algorithms. They are based on surface meteorology and precipitable water vapor (PWV). These models were validated by comparing their predicted radiances to those derived from radiative transfer models of the ARM radiosondes. Finally, PWV observations derived from the ICI's onboard GNSS-based PWV retrieval system were compared against those from the microwave radiometer. This dataset contains the ICI radiance and cloud data products.

Organic Acid Aerosol Measurements from the Mount Airy Site for CoURAGE

This study investigates the prevalence and distribution of organic acid aerosols in a rural environment using filter-based measurements collected in Mount Airy, Maryland, during the CoURAGE campaign from March 19th through June 12th 2025. PM2.5 filters quantify a range of organic acids commonly associated with secondary organic aerosol formation and atmospheric oxidation processes. Each filter was collected using a 15 LPM sampler and was extracted in ultrapure Millipore water (>18 MΩ), allowing water-soluble organic acids to be extracted into solution for analysis. The extracts were then examined using a Waters Acquity I-Class PLUS liquid chromatography system coupled to a Bruker Maxis-II ultra-high-resolution Q-TOF mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization, providing high-sensitivity detection and separation of target compounds. Concentrations of several key organic acids were quantified, including acetic, propionic, pyruvic, butyric, oxalic, isovaleric, valeric, malonic, maleic, succinic, glutaric, malic, adipic, and citric acids. These findings contribute to ongoing efforts to understand regional aerosol composition and their impacts on aerosol-cloud interactions.
