Fierro Version 2.x

FIERRO is a parallel C++ code designed to simulate fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and solid mechanics in two- and three-dimensional space. FIERRO is written to run on homogeneous (CPU) and heterogeneous (CPU+GPU) high performance computing machines. Fierro can aid a) modeling and design efforts that have historically relied on commercial implicit and explicit finite element codes, b) numerical methods research, c) manufacturing research, and d) computer science research. The code contains diverse numerical methods to solve the governing physics equations for both quasi-static and dynamic problems. Mathematical optimization solvers are coupled to the numerical methods to research topology and shape optimization that has application to additive manufacturing, and to create novel numerical approaches. Phase-field methods with micromechanical solvers are provided to simulate microstructure formation and evolution in manufacturing processes. The micromechanical solvers can also help research efforts create continuum-scale constitutive models for solids, as a function of the microstructure, in situ in a calculation or in a stand-alone manner. No physical data exists within the code.

Viscoplastic selfconsistent (VPSC) code (version 8, open source)

VPSC is a mean-field polycrystal plasticity code for the prediction of the mechanical response and microstructure evolution of polycrystalline aggregates. The VPSC code is the computational realization of the visco-plastic self-consistent theory of polycrystal deformation. Both the theory and details of its numerical implementation were originally reported by R.A. Lebensohn and C.N. Tomé: "A self-consistent approach for the simulation of plastic deformation and texture development of polycrystals: application to Zirconium alloys", Acta Metallurgica et Materialia 41, 2611 (1993). Since then, the VPSC code has experienced several improvements and extensions and it is nowadays extensively used to simulate plastic deformation of polycrystalline aggregates and to interpret experimental evidence on metals, minerals and polymers.

DiscoFluxM version 1.x

DiscoFluxM is software for modeling the deformation behavior of crystalline materials within the third-party finite-element based software, MOOSE. The software enables full-field crystal plasticity finite element simulations of deformation processes of metals and other crystalline materials. DiscoFluxM is an implementation of the DiscoFlux theoretical and algorithmic framework for coupling single-crystal plasticity with dislocation transport. The continuum mesoscale modeling framework is founded upon a nonlocal dislocation-density based crystal plasticity theory. The nonlocal theory couples continuum dislocation transport with an otherwise spatially-local single-crystal model employing nonlinear thermoelasticity and crystallographic plasticity. Dislocation transport is modeled by enforcing dislocation conservation at a slip-system level through the solution of advection-diffusion equations. The configuration of geometrically necessary dislocation density gives rise to a back-stress that inhibits or accentuates the flow of dislocations.

HipBone: A performance-portable graphics processing unit-accelerated C++ version of the NekBone benchmark

We present hipBone, an open-source performance-portable proxy application for the Nek5000 (and NekRS) computational fluid dynamics applications. HipBone is a fully GPU-accelerated C++ implementation of the original NekBone CPU proxy application with several novel algorithmic and implementation improvements which optimize its performance on modern fine-grain parallel GPU accelerators. Our optimizations include a conversion to store the degrees of freedom of the problem in assembled form in order to reduce the amount of data moved during the main iteration and a portable implementation of the main Poisson operator kernel. We demonstrate near-roofline performance of the operator kernel on three different modern GPU accelerators from two different vendors. We present a novel algorithm for splitting the application of the Poisson operator on GPUs which aggressively hides MPI communication required for both halo exchange and assembly. Our implementation of nearest-neighbor MPI communication then leverages several different routing algorithms and GPU-Direct RDMA capabilities, when available, which improves scalability of the benchmark. We demonstrate the performance of hipBone on three different clusters housed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, namely, the Summit supercomputer and the Frontier early-access clusters, Spock and Crusher. Our tests demonstrate both portability across different clusters and very good scaling efficiency, especially on large problems.

Dayflow: CONUS Daily Streamflow Reanalysis, Version 2 (DayflowV2)

The DayflowV2 dataset provides multiple meteorologic forcings driven hourly streamflow information for approximately 2.7 million NHDPlusV2 stream reaches in the conterminous US (CONUS). DaymetV4, Stage-IV, and Analysis of Period of Record for Calibration (AORC) forcings and their corresponding hybrids drive a nationally scalable modeling framework integrating the simulated runoff from the Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC) model with the Routing Application for Parallel computatIon of Discharge (RAPID) routing model. Streamflow with (Assimilated) and without (Naturalized) streamflow assimilation at US Geological Survey (USGS) streamflow monitoring sites are included in DayflowV2. A comprehensive evaluation of streamflow at 7,526 USGS gauges is performed for both streamflow types. The resulting key evaluation metrics are also included in the Dayflow dataset. The reanalysis data are available for variable periods; 36 years (1980-2015) for DaymetV4 (DayflowV1), 18 years (2002-2019) for Stage-IV and its hybrids, and 40 years (1980-2019) for AORC and its hybrids.

CMIP6-based Multi-model Hydroclimate Projection over the Conterminous US, Version 1.1

This dataset presents a suite of high-resolution downscaled hydro-climate projections over the conterminous United States (CONUS) based on multiple selected Global Climate Models (GCMs) from the Coupled Models Intercomparison Project phase 6 (CMIP6). The CMIP6 GCMs are downscaled using either statistical (DBCCA) or dynamical (RegCM) downscaling approaches based on two meteorological reference datasets (Daymet and Livneh). Subsequently, the downscaled precipitation, temperature, and wind speed are employed to drive two calibrated hydrologic models (VIC and PRMS), enabling the simulation of projected future hydrologic responses across the CONUS. Each ensemble member covers the 1980-2019 baseline and 2020-2059 near-future periods under the high-end (SSP585) emission scenario. Moreover, utilizing only DBCCA and Daymet, the projections are further extended to the 2060-2099 far-future period and across three additional emission scenarios (SSP370, SSP245, and SSP126). This dataset is formulated to support the SECURE Water Act Section 9505 Assessment for the US Department of Energy (DOE) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO).
