A manual is presented which is designed to familiarize the GE 635 user with the configuration and operation of the overall system. Work submission, programming standards, restrictions, testing and debugging, and related general information is provided for GE 635 programmer.
A new model is proposed which is based on the assumption that the actual traffic to be processed by an I/O channel system is generated as the overflow from a fictitious server system having Poisson traffic as the input. The number of servers and the mean arrival rate can be readily adjusted to verify the main value and the variance of the actual traffic to be handled. A closed solution for the stationary probabilities of state is obtained, and the parameters conventionally used to describe the grade of performance of queuing systems (such as mean queue length, mean waiting time, and probability of waiting) are defined.
A progress report is given on the first phase of a research project to develop a system of Integrated Programs for Aerospace-Vehicle Design (IPAD) which is intended to automate to the largest extent possible the preliminary and detailed design of advanced aircraft. The approach used is to build a pilot system and simultaneously to carry out two major contractual studies to define a practical IPAD system preparatory to programing. The paper summarizes the specifications and goals of the IPAD system, the progress to date, and any conclusion reached regarding its feasibility and scope. Sample calculations obtained with the pilot system are given for aircraft preliminary designs optimized with respect to discipline parameters, such as weight or L/D, and these results are compared with designs optimized with respect to overall performance parameters, such as range or payload.
A general class of adaptive replacement schemes for use in paged memories is developed. One such algorithm, called SIM, is simulated using a probability model that generates memory traces, and the results of the simulation of this adaptive scheme are compared with those obtained using the best nonlookahead algorithms. A technique for implementing this type of adaptive replacement algorithm with state of the art digital hardware is also presented.

A method for updating and maintaining the G189A program library and documentation for all program users is provided. The effort also involves: (1) providing instruction and recommendations for the use and application of the program, (2) developing new subroutines and the logic required for new simulations, (3) supporting special analyses required by CSD, and (4) conduct studies to define and understand the interaction of the shuttle ECLSS and propose payload ECLSS and ECS designs.
The purpose of the Aircraft Noise Prediction Office (ANOPO) at Langley Research Center is to provide a focal point for NASA's aircraft noise prediction activities and an appropriate interface with other agencies and industry. An interim prediction system is now in operation, which includes a program for source modeling leading to noise prediction for a single event, two complementary multiple event prediction programs which predict NEF contours on the basis of interpolation of noise, thrust, and altitude data, and the FAA data base for the commercial fleet. An integrated multimode aircraft noise prediction program has been designed, and a mechanism for continuously providing current prediction technology to be incorporated in the program has been implemented.
