Energy-momentum-conserving stochastic differential equations and algorithms for the nonlinear Landau-Fokker-Planck equation

Coulomb collision is a fundamental diffusion process in plasmas that can be described by the Landau-Fokker-Planck (LFP) equation or the stochastic differential equation (SDE). While energy and momentum are conserved exactly in the LFP equation, they are conserved only on average by the conventional corresponding SDEs, suggesting that the underlying stochastic process may not be well defined by such SDEs. Here, in this study, we derive new SDEs with exact energy-momentum conservation for the Coulomb collision by factorizing the collective effect of field particles into individual particles and enforcing Newton's third law. These SDEs, when interpreted in the Stratonovich sense, have a particularly simple form that represents pure diffusion between particles without drag. To demonstrate that the new SDEs correspond to the LFP equation, we develop numerical algorithms that converge to the SDEs and preserve discrete conservation laws. Simulation results are presented in a benchmark of various relaxation processes.

Coherent Transfer of Lattice Entropy via Extreme Nonlinear Phononics in Metal Halide Perovskites

Entropy transfer in metal halide perovskites, characterized by significant lattice anharmonicity and low stiffness, underlies the remarkable properties observed in their optoelectronic applications, ranging from solar cells to lasers. The conventional view of this transfer involves stochastic processes occurring within a thermal bath of phonons, where the lattice arrangement and energy flow from higher- to lower-frequency modes. Here, we unveil a comprehensive chronological sequence detailing a conceptually distinct coherent transfer of entropy in a prototypical perovskite CH 3 NH 3 Pbl 3 . The terahertz periodic modulation imposes vibrational coherence into electronic states, leading to the emergence of mixed (vibronic) quantum beat between approximately 3 and 0.3 THz. We highlight a well-structured bidirectional time-frequency transfer of these diverse phonon modes, each developing at different times and transitioning from high to low frequencies from 3 to 0.3 THz, before reversing direction and ascending to around 0.8 THz. First-principles molecular dynamics simulations disentangle a complex web of coherent-phononic coupling pathways and identify the salient roles of the initial modes in shaping entropy evolution at later stages. Capitalizing on coherent entropy transfer and dynamic anharmonicity presents a compelling opportunity to exceed the fundamental thermodynamic (Shockley-Queisser) limit of photoconversion efficiency and to pioneer novel optoelectronic functionalities. High-entropy 1D halide perovskite piezoelectrics found by megalibrary synthesis and rapid nonlinear optical screening

Piezoelectric molecular crystals offer excellent compositional and structural tunability and sustainable processability. However, their discovery is slow, primarily due to the serial synthesis and screening processes used. Here, we report an approach that combines massively parallel megalibrary synthesis with scanning second harmonic generation (SHG) microscopy for rapid screening of piezoelectric molecular crystals. Megalibraries consisting of more than 1,000,000 compositionally distinct but positionally encoded TMCM x TMA (1–x) Cd y Pb (1–y) ClzBr (3–z) (TMCM: trimethylchloromethylammonium, TMA: tetramethylammonium; 0 ≤ x ≤ 1, 0 ≤ y ≤ 1, 0 ≤ z ≤ 3) nanocrystals were synthesized. The megalibraries were rapidly screened by SHG microscopy to identify notable noncentrosymmetric structures, which were then tested for piezoelectricity, facilitating discovery of a high-entropy noncentrosymmetric material with a large d 33 (TMCM 0.75 TMA 0.25 Cd 0.75 Pb 0.25 Cl 1.5 Br 1.5 , 42.8 picocoulombs per newton). Furthermore, this approach enabled systematic investigation of the Curie temperature (T C )–composition relationship in the TMCMCdCl z Br (3–z) system, facilitating reverse design of materials with targeted T C . Our work establishes a powerful approach to accelerate the discovery and design of unusual piezoelectrics for next-generation electronics and optics.

The Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab: Precision Measurements and Nonlinear Beam Dynamics

The Muon g-2 Experiment has achieved a significant milestone by measuring the positive muon anomalous magnetic moment to an unprecedented accuracy of 0.20 ppm, paving the way to a better understanding of particle physics, including beyond-the-Standard-Model possibilities. In the experiment, muons are circulated within a storage ring, and their anomalous precession frequency — the spin precession relative to momentum — is determined from decay positron time and energy data, captured using calorimeters. In support of accurate storage ring simulations, we performed high-order calculations of the field of the experiment's high-voltage quadrupoles. We also carried out accurate, transfer map–based calculations of the storage ring's chromaticity. These calculations are essential for understanding the beam dynamics effects in the Muon g-2 storage ring.
